ADAC extends MotoGP contract: Sachsenring to remain venue for German Motorcycle Grand Prix until 2031

The ADAC has secured the long-term hosting of the Liqui Moly German Motorcycle Grand Prix at the Sachsenring. As recently announced, the only MotoGP race in Germany will continue to take place at the traditional race track near Chemnitz until at least 2031. During this year’s Grand Prix, the early extension of the successful partnership between MotoGP rights holder Dorna Sports and the ADAC was officially agreed.

Historic anniversary coming up

The agreement not only provides planning security for fans and participants, but also secures the anniversary of the race track: In 2027, the Sachsenring will celebrate its 100th anniversary. The iconic track is thus firmly anchored in the international racing calendar. The Motorcycle Grand Prix Germany is considered one of the largest single sporting events in the country. In 2025, the organizer counted 256,441 visitors, which impressively demonstrates the continuing enthusiasm for motorcycle racing at the Sachsenring.

Voices from the association, politics, and business

ADAC Sports President Dr. Gerd Ennser emphasizes: “The MotoGP at the Sachsenring is the most important national motorsport event – with more than a quarter of a million visitors. We are continuing this success story and have reached an early agreement with Dorna to hold the Grand Prix at the Sachsenring in the long term. The region’s enthusiasm for the event is enormous. Thanks in part to the good cooperation with Minister President Michael Kretschmer and the Saxon state government, we can continue to host the Grand Prix in Saxony.”

Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sports, explains: “We are delighted that MotoGP will be coming to Germany until 2031. The German market is very important to us, and with over 250,000 enthusiastic fans every year, the race at the Sachsenring is a real highlight in the calendar. Together with our partner, the ADAC, we want to continue setting new standards in the future. We would like to express our special thanks to the ADAC and the Saxon state government for their ongoing commitment, as well as to the fans who make this event an unforgettable experience.”

Saxony’s Minister President Michael Kretschmer also emphasizes the importance of the event: “Saxony is a motorsport state. We support the Sachsenring because we want to support the southwestern Saxony region and because we love motorsport. It’s great news that the Motorcycle Grand Prix will remain with us at the Sachsenring until at least 2031. Motorsport has a long tradition here. In 2027, we will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Sachsenring. The new visitor record set this weekend has once again shown how enthusiastic we Saxons are about motorsport. And how great the fascination is, even far beyond Saxony, that emanates from this important race and the Sachsenring.”

Continuity at a traditional location

The German Motorcycle Grand Prix has been held at the new Sachsenring since 1998. The race is regularly one of the events with the highest visitor numbers worldwide on the international MotoGP calendar. The event will remain a fixture for motorsport fans next year as well: The next Liqui Moly German Motorcycle Grand Prix will take place from July 10 to 12, 2025.
