Planned schedule had to be adjusted
The organizers had already reacted in advance to the weather forecasts and reduced the first scheduled practice day to two non-judged laps per class. The program began punctually at 10:50 a.m. with the guided laps for solo riders. TT-experienced Rider Liaison Officers Richard Quayle and John Barton led newcomers Barry Burrell and Mitch Rees around the 60.72-kilometer (37 ¾-mile) Mountain Course.
Sidecar newcomers also on the track
The sidecar class was also involved: the new co-driver and driver duos Stephen Kershaw, George Holden, James Saunders and the French teams Bruno Mathern/Mathilde Jully and Steevens Palacouer/Yann Druel were given the opportunity to gain their first impressions of the notorious street circuit. They were supported by experienced TT drivers such as Greg Lambert, Steve Ramsden and Gary Gibson, who acted as mentors and accompanied the newcomers.
Weather finally throws a spanner in the works
However, the weather conditions deteriorated rapidly. Rain began to fall shortly after the start of the Sidecar round – both at the start/finish area at the Grandstand and on several other sections of the track. For safety reasons, the rest of the track was completely closed for the day.
New schedule: First qualifying on Tuesday evening
The organizers had to postpone the planned first qualifying session. The first official qualifying session will now take place on Tuesday evening (May 27, 2025) at 18:30 – weather permitting.
