After a long delay, the Cyclone RA1000 is stepping out of the shadow of its concept predecessor. When the RA9 study caused a stir four years ago, it was considered one of the most ambitious motorcycles produced in China. In the meantime, however, the industry there has developed rapidly. While brands such as CFMoto, QJMotor, and Kove are raising the bar ever higher, Cyclone is now launching the production model, which is visually and technically closely linked to the original idea.

Design between concept and series production
Revised appearance with familiar elements
The basic shape of the RA1000 is still based on the concept shown in 2021. The front half in particular, with its headlight fairing, tank, and side radiator shrouds, has remained virtually unchanged. The rear end looks less extreme than in the concept, but retains its distinctive design above the single-sided swing arm.
A strong visual similarity to Italian power cruisers is unmistakable. The wide 240 rear tire, the short exhaust on the right side, and the squat silhouette are strongly reminiscent of the Ducati Diavel. Visually, the RA1000 does not appear smaller and makes a clear statement, especially at the rear.

Technology: Aprilia V2 with Chinese enhancements
Revised Shiver engine
The technical basis clearly comes from the Aprilia Shiver 900. The frame and engine layout are clearly recognizable, but Zongshen has increased the displacement. By increasing the bore from 92 to 97 millimeters, combined with the original stroke of 67.4 millimeters, the volume increases to 996 cubic centimeters.
This results in performance data that is slightly above the Shiver level. Cyclone claims 106 hp (78.5 kW) at 9,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 95 Nm at 6,500 rpm. From its Aprilia days, the engine is considered refined and rev-happy, which is why its use in the cruiser concept is obvious.
Chassis and weight
The combination of steel tube and aluminum frame is similar to the familiar Shiver design. The single-sided swing arm, which already defined the concept, remains a striking feature. Despite its solid appearance, the dry weight of 225 kilograms is comparatively moderate. Although the Shiver was significantly lighter at 199 kilograms, the RA1000 remains within a realistic range for a power cruiser.

Market position and international prospects
China as the core market, Europe with question marks
While Zongshen is one of the established manufacturers in China, where it already produces Aprilia models through a joint venture, the premium brand Cyclone is taking a more cautious approach internationally. In Europe, it has only been represented regionally so far. The RA1000 has already been spotted on Chinese roads, but an official price and a clear statement on European availability are still pending.
Competitive environment has changed significantly
Since its introduction in 2021, the Chinese motorcycle landscape has evolved rapidly. Models from CFMoto, Zontes, QJMotor, and new players such as Kove and Souo have significantly raised the bar in terms of performance. The Shiver-based chassis of the RA1000 therefore no longer seems as innovative as it did when the concept was presented. Nevertheless, the combination of a powerful V2 engine, unique design, and striking cruiser appearance is intended to serve a relevant niche.
