Certain BMW motorcycles of the years 2019 and 2020 will be recalled due to a possible brake problem.
Affected are the R 1250 GS, R 1250 GS Adventure and R1250 RT from 2019, as well as the S 1000RR and S 1000 XR from 2020.
According to documents from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 9,392 motorcycles are affected in America, produced between September 13, 2018 and March 13, 2020.
Reason for recall
It is possible that the front brake calipers could lose brake fluid. The leakage of brake fluid is very small and a slow process.
Reason: The inner seal and the seal groove do not fit perfectly to each other, which could cause the slight leakage.
Due to the slow loss of brake fluid, the brake performance could be impaired, resulting in an increased risk of accidents. However, a spontaneous loss of brake pressure is not to be expected.
Recall not yet officially started
The recall with the number 20V-476 is expected to start on the 06th of October 2020. Owners should contact their dealers. The front brake will be checked in the workshop and replaced if necessary.
The recall originates from the American market, but since motorcycles are usually produced in one factory for the worldwide market, it is very likely that other markets will also be affected by the recall.
