- Free condition check for used Yamaha motorcycles and scooters in Spain
- Vehicle no more than ten years old, change of ownership no more than three months ago
- Italy has a similar campaign with a voucher worth 35 euros
Buying a used motorcycle often leaves you with an uneasy feeling. Many things simply cannot be spotted during a viewing, and you have to rely on what the seller tells you. This is where Yamaha comes in with a new offer in Spain. Under the slogan “Tu nueva Yamaha merece el mejor comienzo”, meaning “Your new Yamaha deserves the best start”, the brand is offering new owners a free diagnosis. It makes no difference whether the vehicle was bought from a private seller or from a used-vehicle dealer. The campaign fits a trend that has been visible at Yamaha for some time: the manufacturer is paying more attention to customers who did not buy their motorcycle new from an authorised dealer.

What does Yamaha offer used-bike buyers in Spain?
In Spain, Yamaha offers a free condition diagnosis for used motorcycles and scooters of the brand. The inspection is carried out by technicians in the official dealer network. They check the vehicle’s most important systems and components. According to Yamaha, particular attention is paid to everything related to safety. This is said to include above all the brakes, suspension and steering. The technicians work with the brand’s special tools and expertise.
The result ends up in the “Informe de estado de salud Yamaha”, a kind of health certificate for the motorcycle. In it, the technicians record whether any maintenance work or repairs are due. The brand combines its offer with a welcome for new owners: anyone who has bought a used Yamaha should be welcomed into the official network and know exactly what condition their motorcycle is in. The campaign page puts it like this: “Acabas de empezar una nueva aventura y queremos acompañarte desde el primer kilómetro.” Translated, that means: “You have just started a new adventure, and we want to accompany you from the very first kilometre.”
Does the free check replace a service?
No, the diagnosis replaces neither a service nor a repair. Yamaha expressly points out that regular maintenance and any necessary repairs are still charged separately. So the check is not a classic service. Ideally, a service should follow the diagnosis.
Nor does the report come with a warranty. It only shows the condition of the motorcycle at the time of the inspection. It does not protect against later defects, and it changes nothing about the legal situation with respect to the seller. Its value lies elsewhere: if you know what will be due soon, you can plan the costs better and will not be surprised by a breakdown on the road.

Which Yamaha models are eligible for the free check?
Yamaha motorcycles and scooters that are no more than ten years old can take part. Other brands are excluded. At present, this roughly covers vehicles from model year 2016 onwards. There are two further conditions. The applicant must already be registered as the owner when filling in the form. In addition, the change of ownership must have taken place no more than three months earlier. So there really has to be a new owner.
The deadline in particular is likely to trip up many people. Anyone who bought their Yamaha six months ago, for example, can no longer take advantage of the campaign.
How do you register for the Yamaha used-bike check?
Registration takes place online first, and the workshop appointment only follows afterwards. Yamaha divides the process into four steps:
- Fill in the form on the Spanish Yamaha website.
- Send the documents proving the change of ownership by email.
- Receive a voucher by email once the application has been checked.
- Use this voucher to book an appointment with any authorised dealer.
In the form, Yamaha asks for name, email address, phone number, model, registration number and frame number. The owner has to arrange the appointment with the dealer themselves. Yamaha does not state an end date for the campaign on the campaign page.
What has Yamaha already introduced in Italy?
In Italy, Yamaha has been running a similar campaign called “Welcome Back Home” since March 2026. Anyone who bought their Yamaha from a private seller or an unofficial dealer receives a voucher worth 35 euros (around 39 US dollars). It is valid for an electronic diagnosis at an authorised dealer. However, in Italy only the dealers who have signed up for the campaign take part. Registration is also done via a form, and the confirmation email is then shown at the dealer.
Andrea Colombi, Country Manager of Yamaha Motor Europe in Italy, explained the background at the launch of the campaign: “La fetta di mercato dell’usato tra privati vale circa il 65% e spesso gli acquirenti non hanno riferimenti certi sul passato del proprio veicolo.” In English: “The share of the used market between private individuals is around 65 percent, and buyers often have no reliable information about their vehicle’s past.” Colombi also said that these customers should really get to know the history of their motorcycle through the dealer network.
How does the YOU Selected Occasion programme differ?
YOU Selected Occasion is not aimed at private buyers, but at used vehicles sold through the official dealer network. In Italy, each vehicle goes through 56 inspection points for this. The general condition, the mechanics and safety-relevant parts are checked. The programme comes in two levels. The standard version is open to used vehicles of all brands and includes a twelve-month warranty with breakdown assistance. For a surcharge based on engine displacement, the warranty can be extended to 24 months. The Plus version applies only to Yamaha models and includes 24 months straight away. For some models, Yamaha’s official extended warranty can stretch the cover to up to seven years from first registration.
The free diagnosis complements these offers. It closes the gap for everyone who did not buy from an authorised dealer.
Why is Yamaha offering the check for free?
Yamaha wants to bring used-bike buyers into its own workshops. Many owners of a used Yamaha tend to use cheaper independent workshops and have little contact with the official network. The free diagnosis opens the door for them and at the same time shows what the authorised dealer has to offer: proven processes, the option of a replacement vehicle, and genuine spare parts and accessories.
For models of this age, there is another point. Modern motorcycles have ABS and other electronic assistance systems. Working on them often requires more tools and know-how than a home garage can provide. Yamaha itself describes the campaign as a sign that the brand continues to look after its vehicles even after the first sale. It also gives workshops a chance to win customers they might otherwise never have seen.
