Honda develops groundbreaking jump-control system for off-road motorcycles

To do this, a camera is supposed to capture data about the track, which is then processed accordingly. “Mode B” allows jumps, but only within predefined distances. Here, the system regulates the throttle and rear brake to control the motorcycle’s angle of attack during the jump and ensure a safe landing on both wheels. Mode C” is intended for more extreme jumps and aims to ensure that the rear wheel touches down first. Here, the system intervenes by applying more throttle when needed or by applying the rear brake to correct the angle of attack.
Technology meets off-road
Honda appears to be using the CRF450 Rally as a development platform for the Jump Control system, suggesting that the technology could initially be used in its Dakar Rally bikes. Depending on the success of the system in tough rally use, it could also find its way onto production motorcycles like the Africa Twin.
