MV Agusta under the sole control of the Sardarov family: return to independence and new management team

After several turbulent years, the traditional motorcycle brand MV Agusta from Varese in northern Italy is once again wholly owned by the Sardarov family. The company Art of Mobility, which is controlled by the Russian entrepreneurial Sardarov family, now holds all shares in MV Agusta Motor S.p.A., thereby underscoring the brand’s strategic independence. This step was taken after the completion of a restructuring process that was originally initiated at the behest of the KTM Group.

At the end of November 2024, KTM initiated judicial restructuring proceedings for MV Agusta as a result of its own financial difficulties. It became apparent early on that a separation from MV Agusta would be inevitable in the course of the restructuring measures. On January 31, 2025, it was officially confirmed that Art of Mobility once again had complete control over the traditional Italian company. No financial details were disclosed by Sardarov. KTM merely referred to a mid-double-digit million euro amount, which would correspond to a range of approximately 20 to 50 million euros (approximately 21.6 to 54 million US dollars).

Strengthening independence and new management structure

With the official completion of the takeover on July 9, 2025, MV Agusta confirmed its return to complete strategic independence. The two-year partnership with KTM AG had previously led to important developments in areas such as the dealer network and production technology. Certain operational functions will continue to be managed jointly until the end of the current fiscal year to ensure a smooth transition.

As part of the realignment, key management positions have been filled. Luca Martin, previously Chief Operating Officer and Deputy CEO, will take over as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in the future. Filippo Bassoli has been confirmed as a member of the board and Chief Brand & Marketing Officer. The Sardarov brothers, Timur and Ratmir, will now act as non-executive directors and represent Art of Mobility. Hubert Trunkenpolz, who previously worked at KTM, has been appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors of MV Agusta.

On course for growth: sales figures and model planning

Since its complete separation from KTM, the company has been optimistic. The targets for 2025 are to reach the sales level of 2024 – around 4,000 motorcycles sold last year represented an increase of 116 percent compared to 2023. According to MV Agusta, this upward trend is set to continue. In addition, the company announced new models, at least one of which could be unveiled before EICMA 2025 in Milan.

Voices from within the company: continuity and confidence

Timur Sardarov, CEO of Art of Mobility, emphasized: “We are entering a new and exciting era for MV Agusta. I would like to congratulate Luca Martin on his appointment as CEO – his leadership skills, experience, and strategic thinking will be instrumental in shaping the next phase of the brand. I am very proud of the progress we have made and the excellent work of the entire MV Agusta team. Our commitment to innovation, craftsmanship, and performance is stronger than ever.”

Luca Martin, the new CEO of MV Agusta Motor S.p.A., said: “Being appointed CEO of MV Agusta is a great honor. This brand is a true symbol of Italian excellence. I would like to thank Timur and Art of Mobility for their trust and continued support. We are building on a remarkable legacy – but more importantly, we are already shaping the future with clarity and determination.”

Background: The Sardarov family

Timur Sardarov is the son of Russian entrepreneur Rashid Sardarov, whose fortune has grown to an estimated US$4 billion (approx. €3.7 billion) through the Comstar Energy Group. The family is thus behind the financial resources that are now enabling MV Agusta to return to independence.
