Technology and performance

The Stark Varg EX is available in two versions:

  • Standard model: 60 hp (44 kW)
  • Alpha version: 80 hp (59 kW)

The electric drive is based on a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMAC) in combination with a single-speed gearbox.  The power is individually adjustable via five modes, which also includes the engine braking and recuperation level.  Depending on the mode, the machine offers an output of 10 to 80 hp.

With its 7.2 kWh Honeycomb battery, the Varg EX offers a range of up to six hours.  According to the manufacturer, the charging time is one to two hours via a 240-volt socket.  The battery is also integrated into the magnesium housing, which also serves as a load-bearing element in the frame, saving weight and keeping the design compact.

Chassis and weight

The suspension has been specially tailored to the needs of enduro riders.  It comprises a KYB chassis with a closed cartridge fork and triple-adjustable shock absorber, both with 300 mm travel.  The main frame is made of high-strength steel, while the carbon rear frame contributes to weight optimization.

The Varg EX weighs 120 kg (approx. 265 lbs), making it one of the lightest machines in its class.  The combination of a 21-inch front wheel and an 18-inch rear wheel ensures stability and agility in demanding terrain.

Road legal and lighting

Stark Future is opening up road use with the Varg EX.  The machine is approved in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and parts of the USA.  Drivers can use it with an A1 driver’s license; in Germany, this is also possible with a B196 extension.

The 4,000 lumen headlight is particularly striking and is said to be three times brighter than conventional models.  Indicator and rear lights are robustly integrated, so that the machine is optimally equipped for road traffic.

Innovative technology: the Stark Arkenstone

The Android-based Stark Arkenstone system acts as a multifunctional cockpit.  It offers:

  • GPS recording
  • Turn-by-turn navigation
  • Mode selection for engine power, recuperation and engine braking
  • Community features for sharing and tracking routes

The system is operated via a robust switch unit with shock-protected aluminum housing and is detachable for use as a smartphone.

Sustainability and maintenance

The Varg EX’s electric technology significantly reduces maintenance requirements.  The elimination of pistons, clutches and oil changes minimizes costs, while the emission-free drive contributes to sustainability.  In addition, the machine operates quietly and therefore also offers advantages in noise-sensitive areas.

Prices and availability

The standard version of the Stark Varg EX costs 12,900 euros (approx. 13,700 USD).  The Alpha version with 80 HP is priced at 13,900 euros (approx. 14,800 USD).  Pre-orders are already possible and deliveries are scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2025.

Conclusion

With the Varg EX, Stark Future is expanding its portfolio with a road-ready electric enduro that will impress both off-road and on the road.  With its combination of performance, modern technology and sustainability, the machine aims to set a new standard for electric enduro bikes.
