Ducati recalls Diavel V4 models due to footrest problem

Ducati is launching a recall in America for 2023 Diavel V4 models due to a production defect in the passenger footpegs.  Owners of affected motorcycles are urged to have their vehicles inspected at a Ducati dealer.

Italian motorcycle brand Ducati has launched a recall for some of its 2023 Diavel V4 models.  The reason is a problem with the pillion footpegs.

A total of 145 units of the latest generation Diavel V4 are affected by the recall.  The problematic models were produced between February 16 and March 30, 2023.

Ducati North America reports production defect with supplier

Ducati North America has identified the problem as a production defect at the supplier of the pillion footrests.  On Thursday, April 13, 2023, the company notified the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of the problem.

According to the recall notice, up to 145 units in the U.S. could be affected by the problem.

Ducati to notify dealers and inspect affected bikes free of charge

Ducati has already sent out recall instructions to its North American dealers.  The letter instructs service departments to check the stamping of the affected batch on the bottom of each pillion footrest.  If the unit bears the code “K22,” the component will be replaced free of charge.

However, right pillion footpegs (part number 46520942AA) and/or left pillion footpegs (part number 46520952AA) that are not from batch “K22” will not be replaced.

Recall as precautionary measure for customer safety

The recall is a precautionary measure by Ducati to ensure the safety of its customers.  The company strongly recommends that owners of affected motorcycles present their vehicles to a Ducati dealer for inspection and repair as soon as possible.

The recall originates in the Americas, but since motorcycles are usually produced in a factory for the global market, other regions could be affected.
