- The recall now explicitly applies to all markets, no longer just the USA and Canada
- Enduro and cross-country models are covered, and at GasGas motocross models as well
- Australia alone reports 5,830 affected Husqvarna and 3,023 GasGas machines
On 19 August 2026, Husqvarna Mobility and GasGas each published their own notice about their Braktec brake systems. Both texts explicitly state that they apply to all markets. That gives a case which previously concerned mainly North America an entirely different dimension. On the same day, the Australian authority also published two separate recalls. The cause is the same in every instance: the rear brake caliper can fracture under certain conditions.

What changes in the Braktec recall for owners outside the USA?
Until now the recall ran through the authorities in the USA and Canada. With the notices issued on 19 August it applies worldwide, which includes machines in Europe.
The previous campaign was a report from KTM North America to the US traffic safety agency NHTSA and covered four street-legal models. The fact that a crash in Germany appears in the documents as a damage case made it clear even then that the problem could not be limited to North America.
Now the brands themselves are following suit. Husqvarna Mobility calls it a precautionary measure and stresses that only a limited number of cases are known so far. GasGas puts it in similar terms and points out that the problem does not show up on every motorcycle. In both cases the rear brake caliper and its bracket are replaced.
Which models are now additionally affected?
Alongside the street models named so far, pure off-road machines are now covered as well, including motocross bikes from GasGas for the first time.
Husqvarna names enduro and cross-country models in its notice, GasGas additionally lists motocross models. Specific type designations only come from the official agency lists. For Canada, media reports say the Husqvarna list includes the FE 450, FX 350, FX 450, TE 150, TE 250, TE 300 and TX 300 alongside the FE 350S and FE 501S. For GasGas it is the EC 250, EC 300, EC 450F, EX 250, EX 250F, EX 300, EX 350F and EX 450F as well as the MC 125, MC 250, MC 250F, MC 350F and MC 450F.
Australia takes a broader approach. There the authority lists all enduro variants of the FE and TE series across every displacement class for Husqvarna, and all EC models as two-strokes and four-strokes for GasGas. Anyone who wants to know whether their own machine is included has to check the vehicle identification number. Both brands provide a service area on their websites for that purpose.

Why does GasGas name a different model year than Husqvarna?
GasGas states the period 2021 to 2024, Husqvarna only 2022 to 2024. The difference is that the affected model ranges switched to the Braktec system at different points in time.
The Australian recall notices even list a year range of 2020 to 2024 in the header, but then specify model years 2022 to 2024 for the Husqvarna enduros in the text. For owners that means one thing above all: the model year alone is not a reliable indicator. Different brake systems can be fitted even within one model range, because depending on the model and production date the group used both Braktec and Brembo components. The corresponding KTM models are not affected by the recall because they are fitted with Brembo brakes.
How many motorcycles are affected in Australia?
The Australian authority is running two separate campaigns covering several thousand machines in total: 5,830 Husqvarna enduros and 3,023 GasGas EC models.
The Husqvarna recall runs under the number REC-006708 with campaign number TI 13_2698518, with HQVA Pty Ltd responsible. The GasGas recall carries the number REC-006710 and campaign number TI 13_2698521, here KTM Australia Pty Ltd is responsible. The competent authority is the Australian Department of Infrastructure and Transport. Lists of the affected vehicle identification numbers are attached to both notices.
The authority describes the defect as a manufacturing fault which can expose the rear brake caliper to high loads in certain riding situations. If the caliper is damaged or fractures, braking performance drops. The notice names the hazard as an increased risk of a crash with possible injury or death for the rider, the pillion and other road users.

When will affected owners be asked to visit a workshop?
Notification is by letter. In Australia, however, the authority explicitly points out that Husqvarna owners will only be contacted once the replacement parts are available.
That is an important difference from the GasGas notice, in which owners are asked directly to book an appointment. For Husqvarna riders it means that time can pass between the recall notification and the actual workshop appointment. The work itself is free of charge in all markets and may only be carried out by authorised dealers.
Braktec and J.Juan: a supplier with a history
Braktec is a brand of the Spanish brake manufacturer J.Juan, based in Gavà. For Husqvarna and GasGas it is not the first recall involving components from this supplier.
In early 2025 a campaign was already running over the front brake calipers, at that time because of irregularities in the casting structure. Around 5,116 machines were covered via the US authority. The current campaign concerns a different component and has a different cause. Anyone who already visited a dealer in 2025 is therefore not automatically excluded. The Canadian authority had also pointed out to KTM North America in spring 2026 that the case shows similarities to several further recalls involving J.Juan components.
Husqvarna Mobility itself classifies the measure as part of its own quality assurance. The brand was founded in Sweden in 1903, and its motorcycles have been built in Mattighofen, Austria, since 2013.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Which countries does the Braktec recall cover?
All markets. Husqvarna and GasGas explicitly added that note to their announcements of 19 August 2026. Before that, the campaigns ran only through the authorities in the USA and Canada.
-
Are motocross models affected as well?
Yes, but only at GasGas. The GasGas notice lists motocross machines alongside enduro and cross-country models. Husqvarna names only enduro and cross-country models in its own notice.
-
Which model years are covered?
Husqvarna names model years 2022 to 2024, GasGas 2021 to 2024. From model year 2025 a revised brake caliper is fitted, and those machines do not fall under the recall.
-
How can owners check whether their own motorcycle is included?
Via the 17-digit vehicle identification number in the service area of the Husqvarna or GasGas website. The model designation is not enough, because both Braktec and Brembo brakes can be fitted within one model range.
