Alpinestars has to recall the GP Plus gloves in black/white because they have a too high level of chromium VI. There is currently a warning from the European Commission.
Apparently only gloves in black/white are affected. The gloves have the model number 3556513-12 and batch number OA86990. If the corresponding number can be found in the glove, it is recommended not to wear it anymore and to contact the seller, who can then check if the corresponding glove is really affected.
Too high chromium VI value
Chromium VI can irritate the skin and is considered carcinogenic if inhaled. It is also considered mutagenic and toxic to reproduction.
Chromium III is normally used in the tanning of leather and should not pose a health hazard. Under certain conditions, however, it is possible for chromium III to oxidize to chromium VI, which is why European legislation allows a level of up to 3 mg/kg in leather that comes into contact with the skin. However, this limit does not apply in Germany. The value for the Alpinestars gloves is 17 mg/kg.
