NEW: Radar alerts now in Beeline Plus: The navigation system for motorcyclists

Beeline Plus, the established premium offering from the Beeline navigation platform, is receiving an important feature update: Radar alerts for speed camera locations are now available in Beeline Plus. Beeline is thus expanding the capabilities of its app with a feature that has been frequently requested by the community – however, there are legal restrictions.

Radar alerts as a new premium feature

The introduction of radar alerts is the result of extensive user feedback and complements the existing Beeline Plus premium package. In future, users will be warned in good time when they approach a known speed camera location, an average speed control zone, or a so-called “speed enforcement zone.” The data includes fixed speed cameras and control areas – mobile speed cameras, traffic light cameras, and bus lane cameras are not (yet) included.

What exactly is displayed:

  • Fixed speed camera locations
  • Start of sections with average speed controls
  • Start of “speed enforcement zones”

Not (yet) included:

  • Mobile speed cameras
  • Traffic light cameras
  • Bus lane cameras

Legal situation: Use of speed camera warnings not possible everywhere

The use of radar warnings is regulated differently from country to country, so Beeline was forced to enable the function differently for different countries:

  • Germany: Speed camera warnings are only displayed during route planning, not during navigation itself.
  • France and Switzerland: The feature is not available in these countries.
  • All other supported countries: Speed camera warnings are available without restrictions.

Availability is always based on location, not residence. This means that a German user driving in Italy, for example, can use radar warnings there without restriction.

Community request for more freedom of choice

The topic of “freedom of choice” was discussed in a follow-up inquiry to Beeline. Many users would like to be able to activate or deactivate speed camera warnings themselves, even if this is not legal in their country – for example, via an additional security prompt in the app. Beeline explains that this is currently not possible from a legal perspective and due to its own risk management. As a small company, it does not want to enter into legal gray areas, but is continuing to examine possible solutions and is in discussions with legal experts. It is therefore quite possible that the function will be expanded in the future.

What else does Beeline Plus offer?

In addition to the new radar feature, Beeline Plus offers numerous additional features that make navigation more convenient and flexible:

All standard features of the Beeline app (free to use):

  • Various route options (e.g., fast, balanced, winding)
  • Precise turn-by-turn directions (also works offline)
  • Voice navigation (currently in English)
  • Compatibility with komoot, Strava, and Apple Health
  • Easy import and export of routes
  • Saving of locations and routes
  • Community-based route suggestions

Premium features in Beeline Plus:

  • Radar warnings (with country-specific restrictions)
  • Round trip function for automatically planned round trips
  • Live traffic information and real-time updates
  • 3D maps for better orientation (according to comparison chart)

Beeline Plus is available as a subscription:

$4.49 per month or $44.99 per year. In Switzerland, the subscription costs CHF 4.40 or CHF 44.00.

Country coverage and voice navigation

Beeline Plus can be used in more than 20 countries, including the major European markets as well as the US, Australia, Japan, and other regions. Voice navigation is currently only available in English, but according to the provider, other languages are in the works.
