Anyone who has an older action camera or 360-degree camera gathering dust in a drawer now has an official way to convert the old device into cash. On April 13, 2026, Insta360 announced a trade-in program for large parts of Europe that exchanges used devices for a credit toward the purchase of new Insta360 cameras. The program is not only aimed at existing Insta360 users, but explicitly also at owners of cameras from other manufacturers and even smartphone owners.
How the Insta360 Trade-In Works
The entire process is handled digitally. No in-store drop-offs are available. When purchasing a new Insta360 product from the official online store, you can add an old device for which an immediate valuation is provided. Alternatively, you can check in advance using the “Estimate Value Now” function on the Insta360 website to see what amount a specific device would bring.
After completing the order for the new product, the responsible partner sends a trade-in confirmation and information for free return shipping of the old device. This must be sent within 20 days of receiving the confirmation email. Upon receipt, the condition is inspected and the corresponding amount is paid via bank transfer. The entire process should take no more than 25 days.
If the actual device condition does not match the original description, users receive an adjusted offer in advance and can then decide whether to continue or cancel the trade-in. If you receive a lower price on the valuation than originally specified, you can cancel the process. However, only one trade-in per order is possible. Those who want to exchange multiple old devices must place separate orders, with a maximum of three devices accepted in total. Accessories do not need to be sent according to the program terms to receive the full trade-in value. Additionally, the trade-in can be combined with other vouchers.
Which Devices Are Accepted
Insta360 does not limit the program to its own product line. In the action camera and 360-degree camera category, devices from three manufacturers are accepted: Insta360 itself starting from the X3 model, DJI from the Osmo Action 3, and GoPro from the Hero 9. Depending on the model and condition, credits of up to over 112 euros are possible.
Additionally, smartphones can also be traded in. The list of accepted manufacturers is much broader. Apple devices are accepted from iPhone 11 onwards, Google from Pixel 6 and Pixel 5a respectively. Models from Samsung, Xiaomi and other manufacturers are also listed. The exact availability and valuation can be checked directly in the official trade-in tool on the Insta360 website. Individual spare parts, accessories or peripheral devices are not accepted as standalone trade-ins.
The company Danghuan, a subsidiary of Chinese technology giant Oppo, serves as the trade-in partner and deals in used electronic products. Functional devices are to be refurbished and resold where possible, which also explains why very old models are not accepted.
New Insta360 Models as Upgrade Options
The trade-in program is tied to the purchase of specific current Insta360 cameras. Currently, four models are in focus: the Insta360 X5 as an 8K-capable 360-degree camera with interchangeable lenses for 589.99 euros, the more compact Insta360 X4 Air as an 8K entry-level model for 399 euros, the AI-powered Insta360 Ace Pro 2 as an 8K action camera for 379 euros, and the Insta360 GO Ultra as a compact 4K mini camera for 429 euros.
Especially for users who regularly use their action camera for outdoor activities, such as on motorcycles, mountain biking or traveling, the structured upgrade to a current camera generation via the trade-in program can be a sensible alternative to private resale. Handling through the official channel saves the effort of price negotiations and shipping arrangements on classified ad platforms.
Data Security and Sustainability
Insta360 emphasizes that all submitted devices undergo professional data deletion. Personal data on the old devices is to be completely removed before the devices are further processed.
In addition to the financial incentive for the customer, the manufacturer states that the reduction of e-waste is the focus. Functional devices that would otherwise remain unused in drawers or be improperly disposed of are to be returned to a recycling cycle through the program.
Availability and Restrictions
The program is now available in large parts of Europe. Supported countries include Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Poland and numerous other EU states. The trade-in is also available in the USA, Japan and some Asian regions. Insta360 has announced that it will gradually expand the program to additional regions.
In the first phase, 300 trade-in slots are available per new product. Allocation is on a first-come, first-served basis. Insta360 reserves the right to adjust both the program duration and the number of available slots according to demand.
