Course of the accident
At around 6:40 p.m., a group of three motorcyclists was traveling on the Black Forest High Road from Baden-Baden toward Bühlerhöhe. In a left-hand bend before the Helbingfelsen parking lot, at least one of the riders crossed into the oncoming lane despite the solid line, according to current information. Two oncoming cars had to brake hard to avoid a collision.
A 53-year-old motorcyclist riding behind the cars was unable to react in time and crashed his Ducati into the rear of a BMW. The man suffered serious injuries and was flown to a hospital by rescue helicopter. He remains in intensive care.
Suspected illegal racing
According to the investigation, the three men, aged 24, 29, and 37, were involved in an illegal car race shortly before the accident. Two of them are said to have performed risky overtaking maneuvers and used the opposite lane. Witnesses also reported that the group had previously driven the section of the road several times at high speed.
Investigations and searches
Thanks to witness statements and the evaluation of video footage, the officers were able to determine the license plate numbers of the motorcycles that fled the scene. At the request of the Baden-Baden public prosecutor’s office, the Baden-Baden district court issued search warrants for the suspects’ homes.
On August 5, 2025, these searches were carried out in the Pforzheim area with the participation of the police headquarters. The alleged drivers were identified and evidence such as cell phones and storage media were seized. The three motorcycles were also seized in preparation for possible confiscation.
Legal consequences
The men face imprisonment for conducting an illegal motor vehicle race with serious consequences. The investigation is ongoing.
