- New single-cylinder engine and new frame, designed for the A2 licence
- KYB suspension, 21- and 18-inch spoked wheels, titanium exhaust from Akrapovič
- Concept from an ongoing development project, still without price or date
On the evening of 2 November 2026, Yamaha Motor Europe presented the Ténéré 4 Concept at its “Redefine the Standard” event in Milan, one day before EICMA opens its doors. It is not yet a finished production model. Yamaha describes it as part of an ongoing development project for a light and agile adventure motorcycle that can be ridden on an A2 licence. Strong customer demand is said to have prompted the project. At the same time, the manufacturer has announced that it will continue to expand its adventure range over the coming years. With the Ténéré 4, the family would gain a model below the Ténéré 700.

What is the Yamaha Ténéré 4 Concept?
The Yamaha Ténéré 4 Concept is a concept motorcycle with which Yamaha announces a smaller and lighter adventure bike for A2 riders. It is meant to combine genuine off-road ability with a manageable, agile vehicle.
Visually, the Ténéré 4 stays close to its bigger siblings. The tank is flat and sits low, and the silhouette is kept slim. Yamaha sees this as a nod to the rally origins of the range. Experience gained with the Ténéré 700 is said to have gone into the development. The concept on show wears a contour-line design familiar from maps, in grey, black and blue, combined with gold fork tubes.
What technology does the Ténéré 4 Concept use?
At its heart is a completely new single-cylinder engine, housed in an equally new frame. Yamaha has not yet published any specific technical data.
The engine is designed to burn fuel particularly efficiently, pull strongly in the low and mid rev range and still deliver usable power at high revs. Strong pulling power from low down is especially important off-road, because it allows the bike to be controlled cleanly even at low speeds. The frame is meant to be both stable and light. Yamaha expects this to deliver good handling on tarmac as well as on difficult trails.
For the suspension, the concept relies on KYB components front and rear. The spoked wheels measure 21 inches at the front and 18 inches at the rear and are fitted with Michelin Anakee Wild tyres. A compact titanium exhaust system from Akrapovič provides the sound. According to Yamaha, the riding position has been designed entirely around the rider so that the Ténéré 4 feels accessible and agile.
Weight, seat height, tank capacity, power output and electronic equipment are still unknown.

Who is the Yamaha Ténéré 4 aimed at?
The Ténéré 4 is aimed at A2 licence holders and anyone looking for a light, easily controllable motorcycle for trips away from paved roads. Yamaha explicitly names two groups: experienced riders looking for new challenges and newcomers who want to gain their first off-road experience.
The A2 licence comes with fixed limits. A motorcycle may produce a maximum of 48 hp (35 kW), and its power-to-weight ratio must not exceed 0.2 kW per kilogram. Until now, A2 riders at Yamaha could only turn to the Ténéré 700, which produces 73 hp (54 kW) from its 689 cc twin in unrestricted form and has to be restricted to 35 kW for the A2 licence. A Ténéré developed from the ground up for this class did not exist in the current line-up.
Why is Yamaha returning to a single cylinder with the Ténéré 4?
The single cylinder stands at the beginning of the Ténéré story. With the Ténéré 4, Yamaha is taking up this principle again, this time as an additional model below the Ténéré 700 rather than as its replacement.
The roots go back to the first Paris-Dakar Rally in 1979, which was won by a Yamaha XT500. Yamaha built on this success and presented the XT600 Ténéré in 1982, also with a single cylinder. Since then, the Ténéré name has stood for travelling off the beaten track. The last single-cylinder Ténéré was the XT660Z Ténéré, which was available until 2016. Since 2019, the Ténéré 700 with its parallel twin has carried the name forward.

What is known about displacement, price and launch?
Officially, nothing is known yet about these three points. Neither displacement nor power, price or sales launch are mentioned in the press release for the Ténéré 4 Concept.
There were, however, hints of such a project before the presentation. According to a report by the French magazine Auto-Moto dated 10 October 2026, Yamaha is working on a new platform built around a 430 cc single-cylinder engine tailored to the A2 licence. The magazine imagined the motorcycle as an adventure bike in the style of a “Ténéré 450” and considered further variants on the same base possible. The report put the entry price at around 7,000 euros (approximately 7,850 US dollars). Auto-Moto did not expect sales to start in France before 2028, as the engine still had to undergo durability, emissions and noise tests.
Yamaha has not confirmed any of this information. The report only matches what the manufacturer is now officially showing on two points: it is a single-cylinder engine, and the motorcycle targets the A2 licence. Displacement, price and timing therefore remain speculation. The name is also different, as the concept is officially called Ténéré 4 and not Ténéré 450.
When will the Yamaha Ténéré 4 go on sale?
There is no date for the market launch. Yamaha describes the Ténéré 4 Concept as an ongoing development project and gives neither a model year nor a price.
The concept was shown at the start of EICMA 2026. The motorcycle show runs from 3 to 8 November at the Fiera Milano Rho exhibition centre. The first two days are reserved for press and trade visitors, and from 5 to 8 November the show is open to everyone. Yamaha had already announced its presentation in late summer with the motto “Redefine the Standard” and a graphic showing three irregular heartbeats. This had sparked speculation about a new three-cylinder engine. A three-cylinder plays no role in the press release for the Ténéré 4 Concept.
