Since its market launch in 2023, the Suzuki GSX-8S has carved out a firm position in the midsize naked bike segment. Numerous test victories in the specialist press and a growing fan base speak for the concept of the Japanese manufacturer, which focuses on sporty performance combined with everyday practicality. For model year 2026, the updates are modest: LED turn signals and fresh paint schemes are the visible changes. The technical foundation remains untouched.
The 776cc Twin with 270-Degree Character
The heart of the GSX-8S is a compact inline twin-cylinder with 776 cubic centimeters of displacement and DOHC valve timing. The engine delivers its maximum torque of 78 Newton-meters (57.5 lb-ft) at just 6,800 rpm, while peak power of 83 HP (61 kW) arrives at 8,500 rpm. The usable rev range is broad enough for relaxed cruising as well as spirited riding.
The 270-degree firing order gives the engine a powerful, uneven firing characteristic reminiscent of classic V-twin engines. To counter the resulting vibrations, Suzuki employs its proprietary “Suzuki Cross Balancer,” a patented dual-axis balance shaft system. Power is transmitted through a six-speed gearbox with practically spaced ratios. A bidirectional quickshifter comes as standard equipment, enabling clutchless gear changes in both directions. The system is complemented by the Suzuki Clutch Assist System (SCAS), which reduces lever effort at the clutch and features an anti-hopping function to prevent rear wheel chatter during aggressive downshifts.
The 2-into-1 exhaust system with short muffler contributes to mass centralization, while a two-stage catalytic converter ensures compliance with the Euro 5+ emissions standard. A version restricted to 35 kW (48 HP) is available for A2 license holders.
Electronics from the Suzuki Intelligent Ride System
The GSX-8S draws on selected features of the Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.). Three riding modes can be selected via the Suzuki Drive Mode Selector, adjusting the throttle response of the electronic throttle bodies. The three-stage traction control can also be fully deactivated. A low-RPM assist facilitates take-offs at low engine speeds, while the easy-start system allows starting with a simple push of a button.
Chassis and Brakes
Lightweight 17-inch cast aluminum wheels form the basis for the GSX-8S’s agile handling. Up front, a 41mm KYB USD fork does the work, while at the rear a KYB central shock absorber with adjustable preload is fitted. For the braking system, Suzuki uses two floating 310mm discs with radially mounted four-piston fixed calipers at the front, paired with a 240mm disc at the rear.
With a seat height of 810 millimeters and a wet weight of 202 kilograms (445 lbs), the GSX-8S remains an accessible motorcycle that won’t overwhelm beginners while offering enough substance for experienced riders.
New Look for 2026: LED Turn Signals and Three Colors
The most noticeable change for model year 2026 concerns the lighting: the turn signals are now also executed in LED technology, meaning the entire lighting and signaling system of the GSX-8S has been converted to LED. Three new color combinations are available:
- Metallic Triton Blue / Glass Sparkle Black (KEL)
- Candy Daring Red / Metallic Mat Black No.2 (BNR)
- Metallic Mat Black No.2 / Glass Sparkle Black (KGL)
Price and Availability
The Suzuki GSX-8S 2026 is available now at German Suzuki dealers. The price remains unchanged at 8,990 euros (approximately 9,400 USD) as the manufacturer’s suggested retail price ex-works, plus ancillary costs.
