According to the manufacturer, the 2026 model year Ducati Panigale V4 R represents the most advanced combination of production motorcycle and racing technology currently available. Developed in close collaboration with Ducati Corse, it is intended to serve as the homologation basis for the Superbike World Championship while offering ambitious riders access to technical features that were previously reserved exclusively for racing.

Engine and performance: MotoGP technology in series production

At the heart of the new Panigale V4 R is the 998 cm³ Desmosedici Stradale R engine. This V4 four-valve engine complies with the Euro 5+ standard and delivers a maximum power output of 218 hp (160 kW) at 15,500 rpm (US version: 208.4 hp or 153.2 kW at 13,250 rpm). With the optional racing exhaust, Ducati says power increases to up to 235 hp (172.8 kW) at 15,750 rpm and even reaches 239 hp (175.8 kW) with Ducati Corse Performance oil.

The maximum torque is 114.5 Nm at 12,000 rpm. According to the manufacturer, the torque curve has been improved compared to its predecessor, especially in the mid-speed range (at 6,000 rpm, an increase of 7% compared to its predecessor).

The top speed in the Euro 5+ version is 318.4 km/h (197.8 mph) and increases to over 330 km/h (205 mph) with the non-approved racing exhaust system – a figure previously reserved exclusively for MotoGP motorcycles.

Technical highlights of the drive

Forged steel crankshaft with increased mass inertia for smoother power delivery
Aluminum pistons with reduced weight (-5.1%), DLC-coated piston skirt and oil scraper ring
Titanium connecting rods with shot peening coating
Variable intake funnels, shortened by 10 mm compared to its predecessor
Sprintfilter P08 air filter for higher air flow
New, larger airbox design and more efficient intake

Racing gearbox with MotoGP shifting

The Panigale V4 R is the first production bike to feature the Ducati Racing Gearbox (DRG), which puts neutral below first gear—as is common in racing. This is intended to enable faster and more repeatable gear changes between first and second gear. The Ducati Neutral Lock (DNL) function prevents unintentional engagement of neutral while riding.

Aerodynamics and ergonomics: innovations from MotoGP

The Panigale V4 R is the first production motorcycle to feature the corner sidepod technology introduced in MotoGP in 2021. These aerodynamic side elements create a so-called “ground effect,” which, according to Ducati, should lead to higher grip and tighter cornering radii.

In addition, larger biplane wings provide 25% more downforce at 270 km/h (4.8 kg downforce) and 6 kg downforce at 300 km/h. This is intended to improve stability during acceleration and at high speeds.

The seat-tank area and footrests have been optimized for racing. The footrests are now positioned 10 mm further inwards, which, according to Ducati, should improve the aerodynamic seating position, support, and handling.

Suspension and chassis: developed to World Championship specifications

The suspension is based on the aluminum front frame and a newly designed, symmetrical hollow swing arm. The aim was to reduce lateral stiffness by 40% in order to make optimum use of the performance of modern slick tires.

The Öhlins suspension is fully adjustable:

  • NPX25/30 compressed air fork (43 mm, 125 mm spring travel)
  • TTX36 rear shock absorber
  • SD20 steering damper

The swing arm pivot point can be adjusted to four positions, and the rear can be adjusted over a wider range via a deflection mechanism (32.4 mm vs. 13 mm spring travel previously). A linear suspension travel sensor can be retrofitted for telemetry.

Brakes and wheels

New Brembo Hypure monoblock calipers with 330 mm discs are used at the front. They are designed to offer better heat dissipation and more consistent braking performance.

The V4 R comes standard with forged 5-spoke aluminum wheels fitted with Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP v4 tires (120/70 ZR 17 front, 200/60 ZR 17 rear). For track day use, Superbike slicks in 125/70 (front) and 200/65 (rear) can be fitted without modification.

Electronics: More control, more performance

The V4 R’s electronics package is based on a 6-axis IMU and has been enhanced with Ducati Vehicle Observer (DVO). The assistance systems include:

  • ABS Cornering with combined brake force distribution
  • Race Brake Control
  • Ducati Traction Control (DTC) DVO
  • Ducati Slide Control (DSC)
  • Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC) DVO
  • Engine Brake Control (EBC) with DVO logic
  • Ducati Power Launch (DPL) DVO
  • Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) 2.0

Various riding modes (Race A, Race B, Sport, Road, Wet) can be set via the 6.9-inch TFT display (8:3 format). For the racetrack, there is a special “Grip Meter” display for graphically showing the available grip.

Data recording and accessories

The Ducati Data Logger (DDL) can be used to record all sensor data and evaluate it for chassis tuning. Ducati Performance also offers numerous track accessories:

  • Carbon rims (-0.95 kg compared to standard wheels)
  • PRO and PRO+ brake kits
  • Racing fairing and footpegs
  • DAVC Race Pro software for adjusting engine settings and control strategies

Weight and equipment

The Panigale V4 R weighs 186.5 kg (411 lbs) ready to ride without fuel.
Standard equipment includes a 17-liter aluminum fuel tank, lithium battery, LED headlights with integrated turn signals, single seat, and extensive electronics.

Availability

The Ducati Panigale V4 R will be available from European dealers in November 2025, with the US market launch following a month later.
