- FCR Original offers the Escape conversion for both the Scrambler 400 X and 400 XC
- Extensive modifications to suspension, exhaust, lighting, and protection components
- The conversion was publicly unveiled at Retromobile 2026 in Paris
The Triumph Scrambler 400 is one of the most accessible models in Triumph’s current lineup. With its 398cc single-cylinder engine, upright riding position, and A2 license compatibility, it appeals to beginners and experienced riders alike who are looking for an uncomplicated second bike. This is exactly where the French workshop FCR Original, based in Chauvigny, steps in, transforming the small British machine into a significantly more off-road-oriented motorcycle.

FCR Original: A Workshop Between Craft and Production
FCR Original is not a traditional one-off customizer but rather a manufacturer of configurable motorcycle conversions. The workshop in Chauvigny near Poitiers specializes in Triumph models and offers, alongside complete builds, its own accessories range under the name FCR Accessoires. The Escape conversion for the Scrambler 400 was first unveiled in December 2025 and presented to a wider audience at Retromobile 2026 in Paris.
FCR Original’s approach differs from many custom workshops. Rather than radical builds that tailor a motorcycle to a single purpose, the workshop focuses on balanced machines that are meant to work both on the road and off the beaten path. The Escape conversion is not a one-off but a configurable package that can be individually adapted to each buyer’s preferences.
Two Base Models, One Concept
The Escape conversion is available for both variants of the Scrambler 400: the more street-oriented Scrambler 400 X and the factory-equipped, more off-road-capable Scrambler 400 XC. On the 400 X platform, the conversion emphasizes elegance and versatility, while on the 400 XC it further enhances the adventure character. In both cases, A2 compatibility is retained, making the Escape attractive to newly licensed riders as well.
The mechanical foundation remains untouched. The 398cc single-cylinder retains its stock tune and the flexibility designed for everyday use. Modifications instead focus on suspension, protection components, ergonomics, and visual appearance.

What Sets the Escape Apart from Stock
The list of modifications is extensive. At the front, the headlight assembly including surround, headlight guard, and turn signals has been renewed. A specific headlight cowl with its own paint finish is meant to give the motorcycle more presence, while a redesigned fork cover accentuates the body lines. A radiator guard protects the exposed radiator from stone chips and debris.
Underneath, a skid plate and a purpose-designed chain guard provide additional protection for off-road riding. The stock tires have been replaced with off-road-capable Continental rubber designed to work on both gravel and asphalt.
The stock exhaust system gives way to a high-mounted unit with its own muffler. The elevated position is not purely aesthetic but also increases wading depth for water crossings. According to FCR Original, the system delivers a more distinctive sound without compromising everyday comfort.
Ergonomically, the seat has been reworked to offer more comfort on longer rides. At the rear, a luggage rack and integrated soft bags equip the Escape for multi-day trips. Side panels with exclusive design and custom paintwork round out the appearance and give the motorcycle a cohesive, distinctive silhouette.
Graphic Identity Over Understatement
Visually, the Escape goes for a deliberately graphic design. The tank receives elaborate custom paintwork intended to underscore the off-road character. The color scheme extends across the side panels and headlight cowl, creating a visually coherent overall look. FCR Original offers several color variants, including black, beige, ice blue, and a dark green with topographic motifs. The design draws on modern outdoor concepts and is meant to convey movement and freedom.

Not a Fixed Model, but an Evolving Concept
FCR Original emphasizes that the Escape is not a fixed configuration. The conversion is designed as a modular system where individual components can be added or changed at a later date. Anyone who initially wants to equip their motorcycle with just a few protection parts or the exhaust system can do so and expand the Escape package over time. Through FCR’s in-house accessory shop, FCR Accessoires, many of the components used are also available individually, including radiator guards, skid plates, license plate holders with LED turn signals, and air filters.
Pricing and Availability
FCR Original has not yet publicly disclosed specific pricing for the complete Escape conversion. The workshop operates on an inquiry basis and individually tailors the scope of the conversion with each customer. Individual accessories from the FCR Accessoires range are available through the online shop and ship from the Chauvigny workshop within 24 to 48 hours, with Europe-wide delivery taking three to seven business days.
