- Up to 25 percent more mileage at the rear and 18 percent at the front compared with the A41, according to Bridgestone’s internal tests
- Gradual market launch from 1 January 2027, initially in six sizes
- Nine further sizes will not follow until 2028
Anyone riding a big adventure bike usually spends more time on tarmac than on gravel. It is precisely these riders Bridgestone has in mind with the Battlax Adventure A42. It succeeds the A41, which went on sale in December 2017. The headline figures sound impressive: more miles, less slip when accelerating on wet roads and a quieter ride. A closer look is worthwhile, though, because the figures come from a tightly defined test framework. And anyone who doesn’t need one of the most common sizes may have to wait until 2028.

How meaningful are the Battlax Adventure A42 test figures?
Bridgestone determined all the improvements in its own tests, and only in two sizes: 120/70R19 at the front and 170/60R17 at the rear. The manufacturer’s information does not reveal how the A42 compares with its predecessor in the other sizes.
Within this framework, Bridgestone quotes three key figures. The biggest step is said to be in durability: according to the manufacturer, the rear tyre lasts 25 percent longer than an A41 and the front tyre 18 percent longer. In the wet, the new tyre is said to have 14 percent less slip when accelerating in a straight line. Slip describes how much faster the wheel turns than the motorcycle is actually moving forward. Less slip therefore means more drive reaches the road. On top of that comes 15 percent less rolling noise.
Bridgestone itself points out that real-world results may differ. Tyre and motorcycle maintenance, road conditions and riding style are decisive factors. There are no independent tests so far.
What has Bridgestone changed in the compound and tread pattern?
For the A42, Bridgestone has revised the rubber compounds, the tread pattern and the tyre construction. The front and rear tyres deliberately get different compounds.
At the front, a flexible polymer in the rubber is designed to provide more grip on the road. At the rear, Bridgestone uses a polymer that reduces wear and thus increases mileage. In both compounds, the ratio of silica to carbon black has been rebalanced. Silica mainly helps in the wet, carbon black more with durability. The new balance is intended to bring both together better.
Pulse Groove and a new groove layout
Visually, the tread pattern follows on from Bridgestone’s more recent Battlax tyres, namely the Hypersport S23 sports tyre from 2023 and the Sport Touring T33 sport-touring tyre from 2024. New to the adventure tyre is the Pulse Groove technology. The width of the grooves pulses, and small guide edges steer the water. This is designed to let it drain through the grooves more evenly and quickly. Bridgestone already uses this principle on car and motorcycle tyres.
The tread grooves are also arranged differently from the A41. This makes the tread pattern stiffer, which according to the manufacturer benefits wet performance, mileage and noise alike. A larger contact patch, meaning the part of the tyre that touches the road, is also designed to provide more stability and comfort. For the tyre’s construction, Bridgestone draws on the fundamentals of the Battlax family and adds new materials.

Which riders is the Bridgestone Battlax Adventure A42 designed for?
The A42 is aimed at adventure bike riders who mainly ride on the road. Bridgestone names city traffic, motorways, twisty country roads and long tours as typical uses.
This segment is growing. According to Bridgestone, demand for adventure motorcycle tyres in Europe has risen by 45 percent within ten years. The figure is based on aggregated data from Tyres Europe. The same three goals were already the focus with the A41: safety in sudden rain, high mileage and comfort over long distances. The A42 builds on exactly these points rather than changing direction.
When is the Bridgestone Battlax Adventure A42 coming and in which sizes?
The A42 will reach dealers gradually from 1 January 2027, with dates varying by country. In Japan, the launch is planned for 1 February 2027. Bridgestone has not yet announced prices.
Six sizes are planned at launch. For the front wheel there is a 21-inch tyre (90/90V21, 54V) and two 19-inch tyres (110/80R19, 59V and 120/70R19, 60V). At the rear, there is a choice of two 17-inch sizes (170/60R17, 72V and 150/70R17, 69V) and one 18-inch size (150/70ZR18, 70W).
Nine further sizes will be added in 2028. At the front, these are two 19-inch variants (120/70ZR19, 60W and 100/90-19, 57V), one 21-inch variant (90/90-21, 54V) and, for the first time, a 17-inch size (120/70ZR17, 58W). At the rear, Bridgestone adds four 17-inch tyres (170/60ZR17, 72W, 160/60ZR17, 69W, 140/80R17, 69V and 130/80R17, 65H) and another 18-inch tyre (150/70R18, 70V).
Several sizes carry the UM designation. They may also be fitted to rims designed for tubed tyres, but only with an inner tube. With the A42, the field of new tyres for the 2027 season grows by another model for road-oriented adventure bikes.
