With the unveiling of the new BSA Thunderbolt at EICMA 2025, the long-established manufacturer BSA continues its expansion course and presents its first adventure bike. The model builds on the history of the original Thunderbolt, which already offered touring and off-road qualities in the 1970s. The new edition has been designed as a modern interpretation to meet the needs of a new generation of riders.

Technical data and engine

At the heart of the new model is a liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, four-stroke engine with a displacement of 334 cm³ and double overhead camshaft (DOHC). The engine delivers 29.16 hp (21.5 kW) at 8,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 29.56 Nm at 5,800 rpm. These figures underline the balanced power delivery, which is specially designed for longer tours and demanding off-road passages.

Power is transmitted via a six-speed gearbox and chain drive. The Euro 5+ emissions standard is complied with. The tank has a capacity of 15.5 liters, offering a decent range for extended adventure rides.

Chassis, equipment, and ergonomics

The front suspension features a 41 mm upside-down fork with 200 mm of travel. At the rear, a seven-way adjustable monoshock with 180 mm of travel ensures comfort and stability. The robust steel tube frame has integrated exoskeleton protection, while a reinforced engine guard protects against stone chips and damage.

The necessary grip is provided by a 21-inch wheel with 90/90 tires at the front and a 17-inch wheel with 130/80 tires at the rear – both equipped with wire spokes. Braking is provided by a 320 mm front brake disc and a 240 mm rear disc, each with ABS that can be adjusted via three modes (Rain, Road, Off-Road).

With a dry weight of around 185 kg (approx. 408 lbs) and a seat height of 815 mm, the Thunderbolt remains comparatively accessible and easy to maneuver. The wheelbase is 1,465 mm with a steering head angle of 25 degrees.

Modern technology and assistance systems

Standard equipment includes traction control, an anti-hopping clutch, and a variety of electronic features. The cockpit offers an individually adjustable windshield and an equally customizable instrument unit. The Thunderbolt has Bluetooth connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, and USB charging ports.

Other highlights include high ground clearance, hand guards, and an upward-facing exhaust for improved water crossings. The adventure bike is designed to make even longer trips with a passenger and luggage possible without any problems.

Market launch and background

The BSA Thunderbolt is BSA’s fourth new model in a short period of time and is scheduled to hit the market in mid-2026. It follows the Gold Star 650, which was relaunched in 2022, the Bantam 350, and the Scrambler 650. According to the manufacturer, the motorcycle is aimed at riders who appreciate versatility and value a successful combination of classic design and modern technology.

The Thunderbolt was developed on a globally applicable adventure platform that is also available to other brands in the Classic Legends group, such as Jawa and Yezdi. The aim is to leverage efficiency gains without compromising the distinctive style of each brand.

Voices from Classic Legends

Anupam Thareja, co-founder of Classic Legends, commented on the launch: “This is the best 350cc adventure bike in the world. Don’t believe it? Then try it for yourself and see for yourself. Today at EICMA, we unveiled the new BSA Thunderbolt, based on our global adventure platform. Our innovative approach allows the three unique brands – BSA, Jawa, and Yezdi – to benefit from a shared platform without sacrificing their respective characters.”

Boman Irani, Director and Co-founder, added: “The new BSA Thunderbolt is ready for adventure and designed to tackle long distances. With dynamic on- and off-road capabilities, class-leading performance, and ease of use, our new model inspires confidence.”

Conclusion

With the Thunderbolt, BSA presents an adventure bike that combines classic style with modern technologies and is designed to be versatile both on and off the road. The market launch in 2026 is intended to bring BSA back onto the international stage.
