Ducati unveiled two new concept bikes at the Bike Shed Moto Show in London at the end of May 2024: the Ducati Scrambler CR241 and RR241.  These models offer a fascinating vision of the future for the Ducati Scrambler range and show how versatile and adaptable the technical basis of the Scrambler is.

Ducati Scrambler CR241: A special kind of café racer

The Ducati Scrambler CR241 is described as a natural evolution of the Ducati Scrambler, but is clearly a café racer.  Developed at the Centro Stile Ducati, the CR241 combines the technology of the Scrambler with classic design elements.  It is equipped with 17-inch wheels at the front and rear and has sporty handlebar ends with handlebar end rear-view mirrors.

The retro-style fairing is reminiscent of historic Ducati models such as the Pantah and the 750 SS.  The seat bench, with a removable pillion cover, is a nod to the classic “Panettone” saddles of the 1970s.  The subtle color scheme rounds off the British understatement of the CR241.

Ducati Scrambler RR241: A retro enduro for adventurers

The Ducati Scrambler RR241 is designed as a retro enduro and is aimed at off-road use.  Equipped with chunky Pirelli Scorpion Rally tires and a rustic luggage rack on the tank, it embodies a robust, adventurous spirit.  The luggage rack replaces the pillion cushion and offers additional storage space.

The RR241 has a high-mounted Termignoni exhaust and a front wheel cover in the upside-down telescopic fork.  The aluminum rear swingarm is particularly striking and was apparently adopted from the Ducati DesertX enduro model.

Technical details

Both concepts are based on the current Ducati Scrambler.  The air-cooled L-twin engine with desmodromic valve control delivers 73 hp (71 hp, 53.5 kW) at 8250 rpm and a torque of 65 Nm at 7000 rpm.  With a 6-speed gearbox and a steel trellis frame, the Scrambler remains true to its tradition.  The modern TFT color display in the cockpit ensures a contemporary user experience.  The weight with a full 13.5-liter petrol tank is around 185 kg (408 pounds).

Possible series production

The question of whether the CR241 and RR241 will go into series production remains exciting.  Ducati is keeping a close eye on public reaction.  According to chief designer Andrea Amato, the public’s opinion is crucial: “People’s opinions on how much they like one of the models are really interesting.”  Rocco Canosa, product sponsor of the Scrambler and Diavel ranges, also emphasized the importance of feedback: “After the feedback from this show, we go back to the engineers and discuss how many we should produce.”

However, there are still technical challenges that need to be solved before production is possible.  These include adjustments to the frame and the implementation of the fairing parts in a quality that meets production standards.

Conclusion

The Ducati Scrambler CR241 and RR241 show just how creative and versatile the Ducati brand is.  While the CR241 reinterprets the aesthetics of the 1960s as a modern café racer, the RR241 expresses the spirit of post-apocalyptic adventures on two wheels.  Both concepts have the potential to expand the Scrambler range and could possibly go into production as early as 2024.
