The Harley-Davidson VL 1931 is the high-compression Sport Solo version of the V-series, powered by a 74 cubic-inch flathead V-twin (1,213 cc) producing around 30 hp. The revised 1931 model year brought corrected frame geometry, a single headlight and Harley's first use of chrome trim. The flathead V-twin carried the company through the Great Depression until 1936.
