Norton overhauls dealer network: showroom concept from 50 square metres

Norton Motorcycles has unveiled a new showroom concept for its dealers, developed together with the architecture practice Foster + Partners. It is meant to work from 50 square metres of floor space and to last around seven years before a major refresh is needed.
  • Unveiled on 5 August 2026 at the company headquarters in Solihull
  • Workable from 50 square metres of retail space, and according to Norton all the way up to a flagship store
  • More than 200 dealer locations are planned worldwide

Norton has been undergoing a sweeping overhaul since the takeover by India’s TVS Motor Company in 2020. After the Solihull plant, the new model range and market entries in several countries, retail is now next in line. For that job the British company brought in Foster + Partners, an architecture practice that normally designs skyscrapers and corporate headquarters. The result is a modular kit for showrooms that dealers can build out to different levels depending on space and budget. The project was led by Professor Gerry McGovern, Chief Creative Advisor at Norton, and Lord Norman Foster, founder and Executive Chairman of the architecture practice.

What changes for Norton dealers?

Dealers receive a standardised design package that they can implement in part or in full. Norton calls it a CI package, meaning corporate identity, in other words the uniform look of the brand inside the showroom.

The decisive point for retailers is the flexibility. A dealer does not have to adopt the entire concept but can pick individual core elements. The deciding factors are the available floor space, the layout of the building and the requirements of the respective market. That sets the approach apart from the rigid rules of some manufacturers, where a location is either rebuilt completely or not at all.

The entry threshold is set low. The concept is meant to work from 50 square metres of retail space, which is around 538 square feet. At the upper end the range extends to large flagship locations. Norton wants to make sure that a small dealer in the countryside and a showcase site in a major city convey the same brand image despite very different sizes.

How much do dealers have to invest?

Norton has not named a specific figure. The company describes the entry price only as significantly lower than in comparable programmes from other manufacturers.

For many businesses the lifespan is more interesting than the entry price anyway. Norton assumes a service life of seven years before a fundamental refresh becomes due. According to the manufacturer that is above the industry norm. This is precisely where a familiar point of friction between manufacturers and retailers lies: anyone who has to replace furniture, lighting and signage every few years carries running costs that are hard to recover through sales. A longer lifespan spreads the investment across more years.

Norton sums up its own goal by saying the programme should upgrade the buying experience while also supporting the commercial success of its dealers. There is no way to verify that at present, as neither figures nor comparative data are available.

What awaits customers in the new showroom?

The motorcycles take centre stage like exhibits in a gallery. That is complemented by areas for individual configuration, technical display pieces and digital screens.

Norton talks about presenting every model as a piece of engineering craft. The idea behind it: customers should be able to grasp the build quality, the technology and the history of a machine directly at the object, instead of walking past a row of tightly packed motorcycles. The configuration areas are intended to let buyers put their motorcycle together on site. The technical exhibits and interactive screens are meant to extend the visit and answer questions that would otherwise require a sales conversation.

McGovern describes motorcycles as emotional, sculptural objects and frames the collaboration as a fixed part of the realignment. His ambition goes beyond selling alone: „The ambition is not merely to sell motorcycles, but to stage them“.

Why is Norton working with Foster + Partners of all firms?

Foster + Partners is one of the best-known architecture practices in the world and stands behind buildings such as the London skyscraper known as the Gherkin, the Apple headquarters in California and the redevelopment of Wembley Stadium. A practice of that calibre in motorcycle retail is unusual.

According to media reports, that is exactly the signal. Norton wants to position itself clearly in the premium segment and uses the practice’s name as evidence of that claim. Norman Foster himself points to the shared roots of both brands. He describes Norton’s history as grounded in design, engineering and craftsmanship, and says of the design: „Our design concept seeks to be a contemporary expression of the company’s heritage“.

Which countries get the concept first?

The United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, France, Spain, India and the USA come first. Flagship locations will be created there initially, and only afterwards will the concept be rolled out across the rest of the dealer network.

That list of countries matches the expansion strategy Norton has been pursuing since the new model range was presented. In the long run there are meant to be more than 200 dealers worldwide. Germany is one of the core markets from the outset, which means the first implementations should become visible comparatively early for local businesses.

Which questions remain open?

Norton has named neither opening dates nor specific locations. The size of the investment for individual dealers also remains unclear.

For now this is therefore an announcement about retail strategy, not a product launch. The concept says nothing about the motorcycles themselves. Dealers considering a Norton franchise are still missing the figures they would need for a decision. For customers the main question is when the first location built to the new pattern will open. Both points are likely to emerge only later on.

Frequently asked questions

  • What is the new Norton showroom concept?

The Norton showroom concept is a standardised design package for retail spaces that Norton Motorcycles developed together with the architecture practice Foster + Partners. It was unveiled on 5 August 2026 in Solihull. Motorcycles are presented in it like exhibits in a gallery.

  • From what floor area can the concept be implemented?

From 50 square metres of retail space, which is around 538 square feet. There is no upper limit, as the concept is meant to work all the way up to a large flagship location. Dealers can pick individual core elements and do not have to adopt the complete package.

  • How long is the showroom concept meant to last?

Norton expects a service life of around seven years before a fundamental refresh becomes due. According to the manufacturer that is above the industry norm. It means the costs for the dealer are spread across a longer period.

  • How many Norton dealers are planned?

Norton is aiming for more than 200 dealer locations worldwide. The rollout starts in the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, France, Spain, India and the USA. Flagship locations will be created there first, after which the concept will be extended to the rest of the network.
