Yamaha Ténéré 900: What the competition sets on price and weight

On 2 November 2026 Yamaha will show a new model that many expect to be a Ténéré 900 with a three-cylinder engine. If it does arrive, it will face a field of five established enduros separated by around 8,000 euros in price.
  • Expected key data: three-cylinder engine with 890 cc, up to 119 hp (88 kW), 21-inch and 18-inch wheels
  • Price range of the competition: 10,999 euros to 19,100 euros
  • Kerb weight range: 215 to 240 kilograms

The class of large enduros around 900 cc is small but well filled. Anyone looking for a motorcycle that can head off-road with a 21-inch front wheel, plenty of suspension travel and well over 100 hp currently has five serious options. They differ less in power than in weight, tank size and, above all, price. That is exactly the field a Ténéré 900 would ride into.

What key data is expected for the Yamaha Ténéré 900?

An inline three-cylinder engine of around 890 cc is expected, with output of up to 119 hp (88 kW) and wheels in 90/90-21 at the front and 150/70-18 at the rear. On top of that would come well over 200 millimetres of suspension travel, a tank of around 20 litres and a weight of about 230 kilograms (507 lbs).

None of this is confirmed. Yamaha has merely announced a presentation in Milan for 2 November 2026 and published a graphic showing three uneven heartbeats. The three peaks are being read as a hint at a three-cylinder engine, the uneven spacing as a hint at an unusual firing order. The familiar CP3 engine with 890 cc, already at work in the MT-09, Tracer 9, XSR900 and R9, is considered the technical basis. An entry price of around 15,000 euros (approx. 17,433 US dollars) is seen as a realistic expectation, but it too is unconfirmed.

Why are 21 inches at the front and 18 inches at the rear considered a condition?

Because Yamaha set that condition itself. Clément Villet, European Land Mobility Director at Yamaha Motor Europe, spoke about it specifically last year on the sidelines of the Milan show.

He said the engineers are currently working on such a project, but that a lazy compromise is out of the question. His exact words: “If we go to the CP3 engine one day for the Ténéré it has to have 18/21-inch wheels, it has to be a real off-road machine. So, the question is now, can we make something with the CP3 platform that doesn’t damage the DNA of the Ténéré name?”

That makes it clear why a Ténéré 900 cannot simply be a raised Tracer 9. The Tracer 9 has long existed as a crossover with 17-inch road wheels. And within the Ténéré family, only the Ténéré 700 with the CP2 twin has been available so far.

BMW F 900 GS Dark Edition in Seitenansicht – günstigstes europäisches Angebot der 900er-Enduroklasse

What does the BMW F 900 GS offer for 13,750 euros?

At 13,750 euros (approx. 15,980 US dollars), the BMW F 900 GS is the cheapest European offering in this group. Its 895 cc twin produces 105 hp (77 kW) at 8,500 rpm and delivers 93 Nm (68.6 lb-ft) at 6,750 rpm.

In base form it weighs 219 kilograms (483 lbs) ready to ride. At the front it runs a 90/90-21 tyre, at the rear, however, a 150/70 R17 and therefore not the enduro-typical 18-inch size. Suspension travel is 230 millimetres at the front and 215 millimetres at the rear, both ends fully adjustable. Seat height ranges from 835 to 890 millimetres depending on the seat. Lean-angle-sensitive rider aids, meaning electronics that take the motorcycle’s lean angle into account, are already part of the standard equipment.

The tank holds only 14.5 litres. That explains part of the low weight but limits range. Anyone using the configurator also ends up well above the base price very quickly.

How cheap is the CFMoto 1000 MT-X really?

The CFMoto 1000 MT-X has a list price of 10,999 euros (approx. 12,783 US dollars), making it the cheapest model in the field. For a while the importer offered a limited introductory price of 9,999 euros (approx. 11,620 US dollars).

The 946 cc twin puts out 83 kW, which equals 113 hp at 8,500 rpm. Maximum torque is 105 Nm (77.4 lb-ft) at 6,250 rpm. The engine comes from the joint project with KTM, where it is used in the 990 models. A KTM 990 Adventure on this basis does not exist yet; only the 890 is in the range.

Ready to ride, the 1000 MT-X weighs 222 kilograms (489 lbs). With 22.5 litres it has the largest tank in the group. Suspension travel is 230 millimetres at each end, the tyres measure 90/90-21 at the front and 150/70 R18 at the rear. Seat height is 875 millimetres. The Bosch electronics package works lean-angle-sensitively. In Germany and Austria, CFMoto grants a five-year or 40,000-kilometre warranty. One size down, the 800 MT-X with 91 hp (67 kW) is available from 9,499 euros (approx. 11,040 US dollars).

KTM 890 Adventure R: the lightest model in the comparison

The KTM 890 Adventure R weighs 215 kilograms (474 lbs) with a full tank, making it the lightest machine in this group. From 889 cc, the twin produces 105 hp (77 kW) and 100 Nm (73.8 lb-ft).

The tank holds 20 litres, and suspension travel is 240 millimetres at both ends, above the level of the competition. The wheels measure 21 and 18 inches, and the rider aids work lean-angle-sensitively. At 15,490 euros (approx. 18,003 US dollars) list price, however, it sits at the upper end of the price range. How much of that is actually due at the dealer depends on the individual case. It is also unclear when the 890 Adventure will be followed by a 990 model, whose engine is already running in a CFMoto adventure bike.

MV Agusta Enduro Veloce with 124 hp for 19,100 euros

At 19,100 euros (approx. 22,198 US dollars), the MV Agusta Enduro Veloce is the most expensive model in the field and at the same time the most powerful. Its 931 cc three-cylinder produces 124 hp (91 kW) at 10,000 rpm and generates 102 Nm (75.2 lb-ft) at 7,000 rpm.

The 21- and 18-inch wheel combination points to off-road use, but the suspension travel of 210 millimetres at each end is below that of the competition. Add to that 230 millimetres of ground clearance, a long wheelbase of 1,610 millimetres and a weight of 240 kilograms (529 lbs). Taken together, that limits how hard an Enduro Veloce will be ridden away from surfaced roads.

Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro im Gelände – Dreizylinder mit ungleichmäßiger T-Plane-Zündfolge

What makes the Triumph three-cylinder special off-road?

The Triumph Tiger 900 Desert Edition works with an uneven firing order. The engine, known as T-plane, does not fire at even 120-degree intervals but in a 180-270-270 degree sequence.

That gives a thumping character closer to a twin. According to the manufacturer, this layout improves throttle response at low revs and grip off-road, because the rear wheel is less prone to spinning up. This is exactly where the link to the expected Ténéré 900 lies: the uneven peaks in Yamaha’s teaser graphic are being read as a hint at a comparable concept, possibly under the name Y-plane.

Technically, the 888 cc triple produces 108 hp (79 kW) at 9,500 rpm and 90 Nm (66.4 lb-ft) at 6,850 rpm. Suspension travel is 240 millimetres at the front and 230 millimetres at the rear, and the wheels measure 21 inches at the front and 17 inches at the rear. The tank holds 20 litres and the bike weighs 231 kilograms (509 lbs) ready to ride. Triumph gives a four-year warranty. The price is 16,995 euros (approx. 19,752 US dollars).

Where would the Ténéré 900 sit on price?

With an entry price of around 15,000 euros (approx. 17,433 US dollars), the Ténéré 900 would sit between the BMW F 900 GS and the KTM 890 Adventure R. That would make it considerably more expensive than the CFMoto 1000 MT-X and clearly cheaper than the MV Agusta Enduro Veloce.

Whether the 119 hp at the top end of expectations are really needed is an open question. Strong torque of around 105 Nm (77.4 lb-ft) suits the enduro concept better than a high peak output. The competition also sets the direction on weight: anyone sitting at 215 kilograms (474 lbs) like KTM sets a benchmark that a Ténéré 900 at 230 kilograms (507 lbs) should not exceed.

One point could set the Yamaha apart from all the others. It would be the only machine in this class for which an automatic transmission is conceivable as an option. Whether that happens will become clear with the presentation on 2 November 2026. It therefore falls into the wave of new models around EICMA in Milan, where other manufacturers will also show their machines for the coming year.

Frequently asked questions

  • When will the Yamaha Ténéré 900 be presented?

Yamaha has announced a presentation in Milan for 2 November 2026. The manufacturer has not confirmed that a Ténéré 900 will actually be shown. The date falls around EICMA.

  • How much power is the Yamaha Ténéré 900 expected to have?

Up to 119 hp (88 kW) from a three-cylinder engine of around 890 cc is expected. That figure is not confirmed. For an enduro concept, torque of around 105 Nm (77.4 lb-ft) matters more than peak power.

  • Which enduro in this class is the cheapest?

The CFMoto 1000 MT-X at 10,999 euros (approx. 12,783 US dollars) list price. It offers 113 hp (83 kW), a 22.5-litre tank and weighs 222 kilograms (489 lbs) ready to ride. It also comes with a five-year or 40,000-kilometre warranty.

  • Which enduro in the class is the lightest?

The KTM 890 Adventure R at 215 kilograms (474 lbs) with a full tank. It also has the longest suspension travel in the comparison at 240 millimetres front and rear. The price is 15,490 euros (approx. 18,003 US dollars).

  • Why is a 21-inch front wheel important on enduros?

A larger front wheel rolls over obstacles more easily and provides more confidence off-road. Yamaha itself named the combination of 21 inches at the front and 18 inches at the rear as a condition for a larger Ténéré. Without those wheels the model would be more of a road crossover.
