Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono Nera: Black Dress and More Equipment for the Single-Cylinder Supermoto

Ducati expands the Hypermotard family with the new 698 Mono Nera featuring an all-black livery, standard Termignoni silencers, and quickshifter. The upgraded single-cylinder supermoto arrives at European dealers from June 2026.
  • All-black livery with red accents on frame and wheels
  • Homologated Termignoni silencers and Ducati Quick Shift as standard
  • Superquadro Mono producing 77.5 hp (57 kW) at 9,750 rpm from 659 cc displacement

Ducati’s Hypermotard lineup is growing. With the new 698 Mono Nera, the manufacturer from Borgo Panigale fills a gap in its single-cylinder model family by introducing a visually and technically upgraded variant of the supermoto. The Nera joins the existing palette alongside the red standard version and the graffiti-decorated RVE variant. Ducati introduced the Hypermotard 698 Mono in 2024 as the brand’s first street-legal single-cylinder machine in over 50 years.

What Sets the Nera Apart from the Standard Hypermotard 698 Mono?

The Nera distinguishes itself from the standard version in three key areas: an all-black livery, factory-fitted Termignoni silencers, and the Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) Up/Down as standard equipment. The black color scheme dominates the entire appearance, while the frame and cast wheels in Ducati Red provide deliberate contrasts. The homologated steel Termignoni silencers replace the standard exhaust system and contribute to the altered aesthetics with their black finish and red details, particularly at the rear. In France, the Nera is priced at 13,990 euros, approximately 800 euros above the red standard version. According to media reports, the Nera starts at 12,990 euros in Germany (approximately $14,395). In the UK, the price is set at 11,995 pounds (approximately 14,350 euros / $15,900).

Superquadro Mono: What Powers the Single-Cylinder Engine?

According to Ducati, the Superquadro Mono is the most technically sophisticated and powerful street-legal single-cylinder engine ever built. The 659 cc powerplant derives directly from the twin-cylinder engine of the 1299 Panigale. Carried over components include the 116 mm piston, combustion chamber, titanium intake valves, steel exhaust valves, and the desmodromic valve actuation that Ducati also employs in MotoGP. Peak power reaches 77.5 hp (57 kW) at 9,750 rpm, while maximum torque stands at 63 Nm at 8,050 rpm. The redline is reached at 10,250 rpm. Service intervals are moderate for a single-cylinder of this performance class: oil changes every 15,000 km and valve clearance checks every 30,000 km.

How Light Is the Hypermotard 698 Mono Nera?

Ready to ride without fuel, the Hypermotard 698 Mono Nera tips the scales at just 151 kg (333 lbs). Ducati achieves this low weight through a tubular steel trellis frame with variable cross-sections and wall thicknesses, cast wheels with aluminum inner rings on the brake discs, and a lightweight twin-sided swingarm. At the front, a fully adjustable Marzocchi USD fork with 45 mm stanchions handles suspension duties, while a Sachs shock with progressive linkage works at the rear. Both suspension elements are fully adjustable and tuned for sporty use.

What Electronics Does the Nera Offer?

The electronics package of the Hypermotard 698 Mono Nera largely originates from the Panigale V4 and has been specifically adapted for the single-cylinder supermoto. The suite includes cornering ABS, Ducati Traction Control, Ducati Wheelie Control, Engine Brake Control, and Ducati Power Launch. A standout feature is the Slide-by-Brake function within the ABS system, designed to support controlled drift maneuvers in supermoto style on closed circuits. All functions can be managed via the 3.8-inch LCD display. Less experienced riders can also gradually approach the supermoto riding style thanks to the graduated intervention levels. At the lowest level of Wheelie Control, controlled wheelies are possible without the system fully intervening.

What Does the Optional Racing Exhaust System Deliver?

For pure track use, Ducati offers a non-street-legal Termignoni racing exhaust system. According to the manufacturer, this is said to boost power by an additional 7 hp, bringing the total output to approximately 84.5 hp (62 kW). The racing exhaust also unlocks the Wheelie Assist function, where the electronics regulate the front wheel angle via torque delivery, supporting the rider in executing and maintaining longer controlled wheelies.

No Superquadro Mono for Additional Ducati Models

Ducati already clarified in 2025 that the Superquadro Mono will not be used in further models. The manufacturer cited the economic environment and the deliberately exclusive character of the powertrain. Those hoping for a Multistrada or Scrambler model with the powerful single-cylinder were disappointed. The Hypermotard 698 Mono thus remains the only Ducati model equipped with this engine, which further positions the Nera as the most comprehensively equipped variant of the range to date. In the context of Ducati’s 2026 new releases, the Nera lines up alongside models such as the new DesertX, the Hypermotard V2, and the Superleggera V4 Centenario.

Ducati Performance: Factory Customization

The Hypermotard 698 Mono Nera can be further personalized with Ducati Performance accessories through the Ducati configurator on ducati.com. The range includes CNC-machined aluminum components, an aluminum license plate holder, racing seats, and adjustable footpeg assemblies. Ducati also points to the DRE Road program for 2026, where the Hypermotard lineup is among the available motorcycles. Test rides can be booked through the Ducati website at the nearest dealer.

When Is the Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono Nera Available?

The Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono Nera is scheduled to be available at European Ducati dealers from June 2026. According to media reports, the starting price in Germany is 12,990 euros (approximately $14,395), while the official European list price according to Ducati is 13,990 euros (approximately $15,500). In the UK, the Nera starts at 11,995 pounds (approximately 14,350 euros / $15,900), while in the USA it is priced at $14,395 (approximately 13,000 euros). The Nera is available exclusively in its namesake black livery.
