Triumph Trident 800: New mid-range roadster with a tiger heart

Triumph is continuing to expand its roadster range and is currently testing a new model variant that is set to be launched under the name Trident 800. Initial photos of a prototype spotted during test drives in Spain suggest that the motorcycle is almost ready for series production. The Trident 800 is positioned between the already established Trident 660 and the more powerful Street Triple 765.

Well-known three-cylinder engine with modified characteristics

At the heart of the technical basis is the three-cylinder engine with a displacement of 798 cm³, familiar from the Tiger Sport 800. In its original form, this engine delivers 115 hp (84.6 kW) at around 10,000 rpm and a maximum torque of around 78 Nm at 8,050 rpm. However, the engine has been revised for use in the new Trident 800. The power output could be slightly adjusted, with a focus on sportier power delivery in the lower and middle rev ranges. No specific performance figures are available yet, but they are likely to be similar.

Revised technology and new components

In addition to the engine, the chassis has also undergone extensive changes. A new fork is being used, which, as with the revised Trident 660, is a non-adjustable design. The brake unit apparently comes from the Tiger Sport 800, which suggests a change from the previous Nissin system to more powerful components.

The rims on the test bike come from the Street Triple 765, while the wheel dimensions are taken from the Trident 660. Triumph is thus remaining true to its policy of exploiting synergies between model series without sacrificing the individuality of the models.

Design remains familiar – with targeted changes

Visually, the Trident 800 is strongly based on the successful design of the 660. Nevertheless, there are noticeable differences: striking features include a small windshield, a slightly redesigned headlight, a larger-looking tank, and an engine spoiler similar to that found on the Tiger Sport 800. However, the most striking change concerns the exhaust system – the previous underfloor exhaust has been replaced by a newly designed tailpipe.

State-of-the-art electronics and assistance systems

Given the technical development of the Trident 660 from model year 2025 onwards, it can be assumed that the Trident 800 will also be equipped with cornering ABS and lean-angle-dependent traction control. Other riding aids already installed in the Tiger Sport 800 could also find their way into the new model.

Market positioning and outlook

With the introduction of the Trident 800, Triumph is making room for a future new Street Triple, which is set to appear in 2026 with a revised engine and a sportier focus. While the latter is designed for sporty, ambitious riders, the Trident 800 is aimed more at everyday users who value balance, performance, and an attractive price.

The new model could be unveiled at EICMA 2025. A market launch in the following year would be conceivable.
