Honda’s mini adventure bikes became lighter, more powerful and got some detail improvements. The CRF300L is not only supposed to combine the advantages of the CRF250L, these should be increased even more.

Engine and drive

The new Euro 5 compliant 286cc engine has 10% more peak power and 18% more torque than the previous model. It delivers 27.3 PS or 20.1 kW at 8,500 rpm and a torque of 26.6 Nm at 6,500 rpm. Exhaust system, air intake and intake timing have been changed.

Gears 1 to 5 have been shortened, which should improve the responsiveness. Instead, the 6th gear was transmitted longer to promote relaxed cruising at higher speeds. The possible top speed has also been increased from 129 to 132 km/h.

When sprinting over 400m, the new model is 0.9 seconds faster with 15.4 seconds.

An anti-hopping clutch has been installed and the effort for the clutch lever should be 20% less.

New chassis

4 kg could be saved compared to the previous model. This was made possible by the use of a new steel frame, aluminium bridge and new lower triple clamp. This improved the stiffness balance and gives the rider a better feedback. The chassis has a longer suspension travel and greater ground clearance, and the steering geometry has been adapted accordingly.

The 43mm upside-down fork from Showa has 10mm more travel and has been revised in spring rate and damping. This allows an extended adjustment range. The wheelbase is 10mm longer and is 1,455mm.

The seat position has been optimized to further refine the handling. Also new is the LC-Display.

Braking is done with a 256mm single brake disc and a two-piston fixed caliper at the front. A 220mm brake disc and a single-piston fixed caliper is installed at the rear wheel. The rear master brake cylinder is integrated in the construction, which saves weight. 2-channel ABS is standard.

Tires and wheels

Weight is also saved on the aluminum rims, which has an additional positive effect on the unsprung masses. Tires with block profile in 80’s wide and 21 inches in front and 120’s wide and 18 inches behind were mounted.

Optionally a 38l top case, as well as rear luggage rack mounts and an oil pan protection for the engine are offered.

Differences between the CRF300L and CRF300 Rally

In the CRF300L, light bulbs were used as illuminants, in the rally, LEDs were used. The weight is 142kg and 153kg with a full fuel tank. The suspension travel of the Rally is identical to the previous model and has not been changed.

The seat height of the L-version is 880mm, for the Rally it is 5mm more. The fuel tank of the Rally has been increased to 12,8l, the L-version remains at 7,8l.
