- 900cc V3 with a 75-degree cylinder angle and an electronically controlled compressor
- New: titanium fuel tank, headers and silencer plus Honda RoadSync with AI voice control
- Still unknown: horsepower, torque, weight, price and launch date
For three years in a row, Honda has used EICMA in Milan to reveal the path towards an unusual motorcycle step by step. In 2024 the show stand featured only the bare V3 engine with its electric compressor, and 2025 brought a camouflaged prototype. This year the V3R 900 E-Compressor is on display as a “Planned Production Model”. Alongside the new Africa Twin CRF1150L and the updated Fireblade, it is one of Honda’s three big motorcycle premieres at the show. That puts it on the long list of new bikes for the 2027 model year, even though a firm date is still missing.
What did Honda show of the V3R 900 E-Compressor at EICMA 2026?
In Milan, Honda is showing a near-production version of the V3R 900 E-Compressor with its final design lines. The basic layout of the prototype has been retained; the main additions are lightweight titanium parts and extended smartphone connectivity.
Anyone who knows the 2025 machine will recognise it immediately. The muscular fuel tank, the trellis frame, the single-sided swingarm and the Y-shaped headlight have all stayed. These features could already be seen in design registration images that surfaced in the summer. The show bike now confirms that Honda is sticking to this direction.
What has changed compared to the 2025 prototype?
New are a titanium fuel tank, titanium headers and silencer, and a further developed version of Honda RoadSync. On top of that come the parts a motorcycle needs for road homologation, such as mirrors, indicators, reflectors and a number plate holder.
Titanium for the tank and exhaust system
Titanium is a rather rare material on a naked bike. Honda itself speaks of a light and compact design for the production model. The choice of material shows that the manufacturer is paying close attention to weight. However, there is no figure for it yet.
RoadSync with AI-assisted voice control
The V3R 900 comes with the latest version of Honda RoadSync, the link between motorcycle and smartphone. The user interface is said to have become simpler and clearer. In addition, there is voice control powered by artificial intelligence that can be used while riding without taking your hands off the handlebars. RoadSync requires a dedicated app. Honda plans to gradually bring the new functions to other suitable models as well, at different times depending on the model.

How does the electric compressor of the Honda V3R 900 work?
An electric motor drives the compressor, not the crankshaft. As a result, the compressor can pressurise the intake air independently of engine speed and deliver extra thrust even at low revs.
The engine itself is a liquid-cooled 900cc V3. Two cylinders point forwards, one points backwards, with 75 degrees between them. There is no other V-triple of this kind in a production motorcycle.
The difference to the Kawasaki H2 lies in how the compressor is driven. On the Kawasaki, the supercharger is mechanically linked to the engine, so boost pressure rises with engine speed. On the Honda, the throttle position alone decides when the compressor works. Turbochargers, in turn, depend on the exhaust gas flow and therefore respond with a certain delay, the so-called turbo lag.
Under light load, the engine breathes naturally through its own intake tracts. When the rider demands more power, the compressor spins up and an electronically controlled flap closes the normal intake path so that no pressure is lost. Honda promises instant torque from the bottom of the rev range and performance on the level of an engine of around 1,200cc. This cannot yet be verified, as the manufacturer has not published any figures.
Why is the Honda V3R 900 built asymmetrically?
The differently sized air ducts on the left and right of the tank have a technical reason. The compressor sits centrally behind the steering head, so the airbox moves into the large inlet on the right-hand side. The smaller duct on the left cools the engine control unit.
With this model, Honda puts function ahead of symmetrical looks. According to the show pictures, little has changed on the chassis. The trellis frame with a bolt-on subframe uses the engine as a stressed member, while a single-sided aluminium swingarm guides the rear wheel. Honda has used this type of swingarm on sporty models for decades, including the VFR 750.

From engine concept to production candidate
Honda itself places the V3R 900 in line with its most important motorcycles. It names the CB750 Four, the Gold Wing, the RC30, the NR, the Fireblade and the Africa Twin. That is a high bar for a model whose technical data is still unknown. But it shows how much weight the manufacturer puts on the project.
The development can be traced clearly across the last three shows. A free-standing engine in a tubular frame became a rideable prototype wrapped in camouflage film. A year later the film is gone, the homologation hardware is fitted and the design is considered final. It is hard to imagine that Honda has developed the electric compressor for just one model. Patent drawings already showed in the summer that the technology could also be intended for other model ranges.
Which figures has Honda not yet revealed?
Honda reveals neither power nor torque, neither weight nor price. The manufacturer has not given a launch date either.
Officially, Honda only says that development is progressing rapidly and that information on the start of series production will follow later. This leaves open the question of how close the V3R 900 really comes to a 1,200cc engine in practice. It is also not yet possible to say how its price will compare with established naked bikes in its class.

When will the Honda V3R 900 E-Compressor go on sale?
There is no official date. A market launch during 2027 is considered likely, but Honda has not confirmed it.
When the prototype was presented a year ago, Honda had still hinted that it wanted to bring the technology to Europe in 2027. In the summer the tone was more cautious: a date for series production had not yet been set and development was continuing. The “Planned Production Model” label at EICMA fits this careful line. Anyone who wants to see the V3R 900 E-Compressor in person can find it on the Honda stand in Hall 7 at the Milan show until 8 November.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
How much horsepower does the Honda V3R 900 E-Compressor have?
There are no official figures yet. So far, Honda has only stated the goal of achieving performance on the level of a 1,200cc engine with the 900cc V3 and the electric compressor. Concrete figures for power and torque are missing.
-
How much does the Honda V3R 900 E-Compressor cost?
Honda has not yet announced a price. Pricing details are only expected once the manufacturer announces the date for series production.
-
What is special about Honda’s electric compressor?
The compressor is driven by an electric motor and therefore works independently of engine speed. This means extra thrust is available even at low revs. According to Honda, it is the first electronically controlled compressor on a motorcycle.
-
What is new on the production version compared to the prototype?
New are a titanium fuel tank, titanium headers and silencer, and the latest version of Honda RoadSync with AI-assisted voice control. There are also mirrors, indicators, reflectors and a number plate holder for road homologation. Design, frame and single-sided swingarm remain largely the same as on the prototype.
