- R 1300 GS Adventure was BMW’s best-selling motorcycle worldwide in 2025 with 33,570 units sold
BMW Motorrad France already attracted attention last year with exclusive special models of the F 900 GS and R 1300 GS for the French market. Now comes the next round: The R 1300 GS Adventure, the flagship of the GS lineup, gets its own Dark Edition. The strategy behind it is the same as with its predecessors: An upgraded overall package with black aesthetics and additional equipment that is more attractively priced than an individually configured standard version. The Dark Edition thus targets riders looking for a fully equipped GS Adventure with a distinctive appearance without having to work through the configurator.

What sets the Dark Edition apart from the standard R 1300 GS Adventure?
The Dark Edition is based on the Triple Black concept that BMW has already used in previous special models. The Black Storm Metallic paint is complemented by completely black spoked wheels. The tank panels are also painted black, while the aluminum tank features a brushed finish without visible weld seams. A tall, tinted windscreen and tinted deflectors complete the dark overall impression.
Beyond the aesthetics, the Dark Edition also includes functional extras that are optional on the standard version. These include heated comfort seats for rider and pillion as well as an alarm system. The full standard equipment of the regular R 1300 GS Adventure is retained: Dynamic Cruise Control (adaptive cruise control), Dynamic Traction Control, ABS Pro Full Integral, four riding modes (Eco, Rain, Road, Enduro), heated grips, LED auxiliary headlights, Keyless Ride and the intelligent emergency call system.
How much does the BMW R 1300 GS Adventure Dark Edition cost?
The list price of the Dark Edition is 25,600 euros (approximately 29,950 USD). However, BMW Motorrad France offers a customer discount of 2,700 euros (approximately 3,160 USD), which can be used either as a discount on the purchase price or as a credit toward rider equipment and genuine accessories. This brings the effective price down to 22,900 euros (approximately 26,800 USD). The Dark Edition thus costs around 1,700 euros (approximately 1,990 USD) more than the standard R 1300 GS Adventure in France, but offers additional equipment that would be more expensive when configured individually.
Alternatively, BMW France offers a long-term lease over 36 months: 299 euros per month with no down payment at a mileage allowance of 25,000 kilometers including extended warranty.

Why is the Dark Edition only available in France?
BMW Motorrad France has been pursuing an independent special model strategy since 2025, tailored exclusively to the French market. Last year, an F 900 GS Dark Edition and an R 1300 GS Dark Edition were already released, both of which were likewise available only in France. Shortly before the Adventure Dark Edition, BMW Motorrad France also introduced special models of the F 900 R in Frozen Grey and the F 900 XR in Aurelius Green, whose color schemes are inspired by the corporation’s automotive division.
According to Grigory Alaev, specialist for product communication and lifestyle at BMW Motorrad France, the new Dark Edition benefits from the same customer discount as the current offer on all GS Adventure models in the French dealer network. Whether BMW encourages other national subsidiaries to pursue similar initiatives is unknown. The fact that France appears to be successful with this strategy at least suggests that comparable approaches would also be conceivable in other markets. BMW South Africa pursues a similar concept of market-exclusive special models with the recently introduced M 1000 RR and S 1000 RR M2 Editions.
How successful is the R 1300 GS Adventure?
The R 1300 GS Adventure established itself as the best-selling model in BMW’s entire motorcycle portfolio in 2025. A total of 33,570 units were sold worldwide, with the Adventure variant even surpassing the R 1300 GS with its 32,555 units. In the United Kingdom, the GSA led the sales statistics in the adventure segment in seven out of twelve months.
The positioning as a bestseller makes the release of special models understandable: BMW can maintain interest in an already successful model with limited editions like the Dark Edition while simultaneously increasing perceived value without having to make technical changes to the production version.

Who should consider the Dark Edition?
The Dark Edition is not a technical advancement at its core, but rather an equipment package with a distinctive visual identity. Anyone who would configure an R 1300 GS Adventure with heated seats, alarm system and the Triple Black look anyway gets a better deal with the Dark Edition package. For those interested outside of France, however, the only options remain the regular configurator or the used market.
The ordering period runs from April 1 to June 30, 2026, with delivery required by July 31, 2026. Given the high demand for the GS Adventure, the limited Dark Edition is unlikely to remain available for long.
