BMW Motorrad and BMW South Africa are launching their first-ever joint special editions. The M 1000 RR M2 Edition and S 1000 RR M2 Edition are joined by their four-wheeled counterpart, the BMW M2 Coupé RR Edition. All three models are available exclusively in South Africa, strictly limited to ten units each.
- BMW S 1000 RR M2 Edition from 406,950 Rand (approximately 21,030 euros / 22,700 US dollars)
- BMW M 1000 RR M2 Edition at 882,100 Rand (approximately 45,580 euros / 49,200 US dollars)
- BMW M2 Coupé RR Edition from Q4 2026, price to be announced
It is a premiere that fits South Africa’s landscape rather well. The BMW M division enjoys a special status there, and the S 1000 RR is the country’s best-selling sport motorcycle. So what could be more natural than bringing the two-wheel and four-wheel divisions together for a joint project? The result is three special models that visually reference each other and share a common design theme: black as the base, red as the accent, and M branding wherever it fits.

BMW S 1000 RR M2 Edition: Red Accents for the Bestseller
The S 1000 RR M2 Edition is technically identical to the familiar production version with its 210 hp (154 kW). Only the looks have changed. All units wear the Black Storm Metallic color, complemented by red accents on the front fairing and pillion seat cover. Added to this are a tinted windscreen, a seat with embossed M logo, and red-accented Design Option wheels.
The RR logos on the side front fairings are finished in bright red. An Akrapovič exhaust system is fitted as standard. The black monoblock brake calipers by Nissin match the dark overall appearance and distinguish the S 1000 RR M2 Edition at first glance from the M variant, which wears its calipers in the familiar blue.
The S 1000 RR M2 Edition is priced at 406,950 South African Rand (approximately 21,030 euros / 22,700 US dollars) and is available to order now.
BMW M 1000 RR M2 Edition: Carbon Wheels and Red Winglets
With the M 1000 RR M2 Edition, BMW takes things a step further. The flagship of the sport motorcycle range produces 218 hp (160 kW) and is also finished in Black Storm Metallic. The red accents are distributed across the M carbon wheels, the tank, the front fairing, and the distinctive M winglets, which additionally carry the RR logo in red.
The side-mounted RR lettering is also finished in red, and an Akrapovič exhaust system is included as standard. Mechanically, the motorcycle remains identical to the regular M 1000 RR. Compared to the usually rather boldly adorned production version, the M2 Edition looks noticeably more understated, which benefits its upscale overall appearance.
The M 1000 RR M2 Edition is priced at 882,100 Rand (approximately 45,580 euros / 49,200 US dollars). It is also available immediately. This means the premium over the respective standard model amounts to only around 500 euros for both motorcycles.

BMW M2 Coupé RR Edition: The Four-Wheeled Counterpart
The automotive counterpart to both motorcycles is the BMW M2 Coupé RR Edition. Mechanically, it is an unchanged M2 with the familiar 3.0-liter inline-six and M TwinPower Turbo technology. Output stands at 353 kW (480 hp) and 600 Nm of torque.
On the outside, the coupé is finished in Black Sapphire Metallic. The M Performance suspension with red springs lowers the vehicle by 20 millimeters. The M Performance wheels in Jet Black measure 20 inches at the front axle and 21 inches at the rear. Front and rear splitters are painted black with red inserts. At the rear, two spoilers sit in place: a black roof spoiler and a flow-through rear spoiler with a red accent stripe. An Akrapovič exhaust system developed specifically for this edition rounds out the package.
Inside, black seats with red upholstery and red contrast stitching set the tone. On the steering wheel, a red marker highlights the 12 o’clock position, and the two M buttons for individual driving profiles are also accented in red. A unique feature across all RR Editions: a standard-fit sunroof available exclusively on this edition. The sunroof reportedly adds around 23 kg (50 lbs) of extra weight compared to the carbon roof.
Of the ten units, five will be delivered with a six-speed manual transmission and five with an eight-speed M Steptronic automatic with Drivelogic. The M2 Coupé RR Edition is expected to be available in Q4 2026. A price has not yet been confirmed. In Germany, the standard M2 Coupé starts at 77,500 euros.
Six Wheels, Ten Cylinders, 690 HP: The Numbers Add Up
Anyone securing an M 1000 RR M2 Edition and an M2 Coupé RR Edition ends up with a remarkable tally: six wheels, ten cylinders, two turbochargers, and a combined 698 hp (480 hp plus 218 hp). BMW itself quotes the figure of 690 hp, which is based on the rounded specification of the M2 at 480 hp, while some sources cite 473 hp (348 kW). The discrepancy is explained by differing power measurements and specifications depending on the market.

South Africa as an Exclusive Market: Why There?
The decision to make South Africa the sole market has a concrete background. BMW M is not merely a performance symbol there but is actually the market leader in the high-performance segment on both two and four wheels. The S 1000 RR leads the sales charts for sport motorcycles. Moreover, BMW South Africa has a track record of successfully launching limited special editions. In November 2025, the 325iS Homage Edition was unveiled — an M240i-based special model paying tribute to the legendary E30 325iS, which carried the nickname “Gusheshe” in South Africa. That model was limited to 33 units.
Whether the South Africa-exclusive editions will inspire BMW M to create similar special models for other markets remains to be seen.
