Michael Schumacher’s Honda Fireblade fetches record price at auction

A special Honda CBR 1000 RR Fireblade SC59 owned by Michael Schumacher was auctioned off at an online auction held by RM Sotheby’s. The motorcycle, which was originally listed with an estimated value of between €25,000 (approx. $27,200) and €35,000 (approx. $38,100), sold for €64,800 (approx. $70,600), almost double the expected price. This underscores the high collector’s value of motorsport exhibits with a prominent history.

The Fireblade: Key technical data and history

The Fireblade auctioned comes from 2010 and was built by Holzhauer Racing Performance for Michael Schumacher. After his first retirement from Formula 1, the seven-time world champion competed in various motorcycle races in 2008 and 2009, including guest appearances in the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM) on this very model. According to the specifications, the machine has a dry weight of 172 kg (approximately 379 lbs) and an engine output of 200 hp (147 kW) at an unspecified rpm. The Fireblade was used exclusively on the race track and has a mileage of around 3,700 km (approximately 2,299 miles). A prolonged period of inactivity and accident damage are mentioned in connection with the vehicle.

Technically, the Fireblade is equipped with high-quality components, including Öhlins suspension, carbon body parts and rear frame, quickshifter, special racing electronics, and forged rims. A comparable model from Schumacher’s inventory already showed identical performance at the PS Tuner GP. The motorcycle was originally valued at around €45,000 (approximately $49,100) in 2008.

Auction package with exclusive memorabilia

In addition to the motorcycle, the complete auction package also included a signed Schuberth helmet and a pair of signed gloves from Held. The auction ran from July 23 to 30, 2025, and included a total of 299 different collectibles from Michael Schumacher’s career. Among them was an original Scuderia Ferrari OMP racing suit worn by Schumacher when he won the 1997 Monaco Grand Prix. It was auctioned for €38,400 (approx. $41,800). Other items, such as Alpinestars motorcycle boots with Schumacher references, fetched €1,500 (approx. $1,635).

Motorsport legend as a value driver

Although the Fireblade is not a MotoGP bike, the high sale price is mainly attributed to its connection to Michael Schumacher. The name of the seven-time Formula 1 world champion is synonymous with success and popularity even outside of motorsport. Interest in the exhibits on offer was correspondingly high.

Conclusion

The auction of Michael Schumacher’s Honda CBR 1000 RR Fireblade SC59 shows the influence that a prominent ownership history can have on the value of collectibles. Despite accident damage and a long period of inactivity, the motorcycle achieved a price well above its original estimated value. The combination of technical exclusivity, a prominent past, and an extensive package of memorabilia ensured an exceptional auction result.
