- Marc Marquez’s tenth MotoGP win at the Sachsenring, adding to his Saturday sprint victory
- Ai Ogura and Raul Fernandez deliver a Trackhouse Aprilia one-two on the podium
- New championship standings: Jorge Martin leads with 208 points ahead of Ogura (194) and Marquez (190)
At the eleventh of 22 races this season, the Sachsenring produced a clear result at the front while shaking up the overall standings considerably. Marc Marquez extended his strong record at the Saxon circuit, while several title contenders lost crucial points. That brings the title fight back together at the season’s halfway point in 2026.

Who won the MotoGP race at the Sachsenring in 2026?
The race was won by Marc Marquez on the Ducati, who started from pole position and led all 30 laps. He crossed the line 1.996 seconds ahead of the two Trackhouse Aprilias of Ai Ogura and Raul Fernandez.
It was Marc Marquez’s tenth MotoGP win at the Sachsenring, drawing him level with Giacomo Agostini, who also claimed ten premier-class victories at the same circuit. Marquez had already set a new lap record in qualifying with a time of 1:19.041 minutes. Following his wins in Hungary and the Czech Republic, it was his third main-race victory in the last four races, and combined with Saturday’s sprint win it completed a perfect weekend. According to organisers, the race was watched by almost 100,000 spectators on Sunday.
How did the race at the Sachsenring unfold?
Marc Marquez took the lead immediately and was never under serious pressure. Behind him, two early crashes and an internal Trackhouse duel decided the remaining podium places.
Off the start, Marquez pulled clear of his brother Alex Marquez, while Fabio Di Giannantonio dropped behind the two Aprilias of Ogura and Fernandez after a weak start into turn one. Fernandez moved past Ogura by the end of the first lap, but Di Giannantonio could not manage a similar counter. On lap four, the VR46 Ducati rider crashed out of fifth place in turn ten. At the front, the Marquez brothers were separated by only around three to five tenths of a second for the first eight laps, before Alex Marquez also crashed out of second place on lap ten. After that, Marc Marquez’s lead grew to more than two seconds.
In the battle for second place, Ogura ultimately came out on top: six laps from the finish he passed his teammate Fernandez in turn one and quickly opened a gap of more than three seconds. Pedro Acosta worked his way up from eighth on the grid to fourth place. He missed out on the podium but stayed clearly ahead of the battle for fifth, which Jorge Martin narrowly won against Francesco Bagnaia.

Which riders failed to finish?
Fabio Di Giannantonio, Alex Marquez, Joan Mir and Cal Crutchlow all crashed out, while Maverick Vinales retired to the pits late in the race. Marco Bezzecchi was absent entirely after an injury sustained in qualifying.
For Di Giannantonio, it was the first Sunday race without a finish this season, dropping him from third to fifth in the overall standings. Bezzecchi broke his left collarbone in a highside crash in turn seven during Saturday’s qualifying and travelled to Italy for surgery. He missed both German races and slipped to fourth in the championship. Gresini also fielded only one rider, as Fermin Aldeguer was sidelined by a fractured vertebra sustained in the previous race in Assen. Alex Marquez rode a special livery inspired by Sete Gibernau’s Gresini-winning bike from 2003. At LCR Honda, Cal Crutchlow continued to stand in for the injured Johann Zarco. All riders used the hard front and medium rear tyre compounds for the 30 laps.
What do the championship standings look like after the Sachsenring?
Jorge Martin continues to lead with 208 points, followed now by Ai Ogura with 194 and Marc Marquez with 190. The top five riders are covered by just 24 points.
Ogura trails Martin by 14 points, while Marquez is 18 points back. Despite his DNF, Marco Bezzecchi is fourth with 186 points, with Di Giannantonio fifth on 184. Marquez’s comeback is particularly notable: after the Italian Grand Prix in Mugello he was still 102 points behind the championship leader. At the season’s halfway point, that gap has shrunk to 18 points.
