- New name: Motorrad Messe Leipzig becomes Motorräder Leipzig
- 2027 dates: Saturday 6 February to Monday 8 February, daily from 9 am to 6 pm
- The combination ticket stays: one ticket covers three shows on the Leipzig exhibition grounds
Messe Dortmund is reorganising its two motorcycle shows. For the 2027 edition, the Leipzig event gets a new name, a revised visual identity and its own website. In terms of content the format remains an early season opener for eastern and central Germany, but organisationally it moves closer to its sister show in Dortmund. For visitors, one thing changes above all: in 2027 the motorcycle show no longer closes the Leipzig block of trade fairs, but opens it.
What is the Leipzig motorcycle show called from 2027?
From 2027 the event is called Motorräder Leipzig. Up to and including the 2026 edition it ran under the name Motorrad Messe Leipzig.
With the new name the organiser establishes a visible link to Motorräder Dortmund. Both shows belong to Messe Dortmund and will in future be run under a shared brand strategy. Leipzig is meant to keep its own profile, remaining the early meeting point for motorcycle fans, manufacturers, dealers and the scene in eastern and central Germany.
Angelika Bauer, division manager at Messe Dortmund, describes the idea behind it: “With MOTORRÄDER LEIPZIG we are creating a clear connection between our two event locations without giving up the independent profile of the Leipzig format.” (In the German original: „Mit der MOTORRÄDER LEIPZIG schaffen wir eine klare Verbindung zwischen unseren beiden Veranstaltungsstandorten, ohne das eigenständige Profil des Leipziger Formats aufzugeben.”) At the same time she points out that Leipzig stands for a particularly early start to the motorcycle season, for personal advice and for hands-on product experience.
The change is also visible online. The former shared site zweiradmessen.de now only serves as a selection page. Dortmund and Leipzig have each been given their own platform; for Leipzig that is motorraeder-leipzig.de.
When does Motorräder Leipzig 2027 take place?
Motorräder Leipzig 2027 runs from Saturday 6 February to Monday 8 February 2027. It is open on all three days from 9 am to 6 pm, and the venue is the Leipzig exhibition centre at Messe-Allee 1, directly off the A14 motorway.
The period itself is therefore not new. In 2026 the show also took place from 6 to 8 February. What is new is its position within the Leipzig trade fair programme, because the parallel shows are shifting. Haus-Garten-Freizeit runs in its 35th edition from 6 to 14 February 2027, together with Handwerk live. The motorcycle show therefore opens the block instead of closing it as it did the previous year.
What changes with the new slot in the trade fair calendar?
In 2027 the motorcycle show falls on the opening weekend of the three trade fairs and ends on a Monday, which is also the first day of the Saxon winter holidays. That places an additional visiting day at the start of the holidays.
The organiser justifies the move by saying that it allows the well-attended opening weekend to be combined with a further opportunity to visit for families, school pupils and those interested in motorcycles. In practice that means anyone who waited for the end of the trade fair block in 2026 will have to adjust for 2027. The holiday Monday replaces the previous closing day as the quieter time to visit.
One ticket for three trade fairs
The combination ticket also remains in place for 2027. From 6 to 8 February 2027 one ticket is valid for Motorräder Leipzig, Haus-Garten-Freizeit and Handwerk live, with no additional admission charge.
The parallel shows cover topics such as living, gardening, leisure, building and craft trades, while the motorcycle hall concentrates on models, accessories, clothing, safety equipment and technology. For visitors who are not travelling solely for the motorcycles, this results in a broader programme on the same grounds. The combination ticket is valid on the three shared days from 9.30 am, while Haus-Garten-Freizeit itself opens daily from 9.30 am to 6 pm.
The ticket shop is due to open in December 2026. Leipziger Messe intends to publish an overview of advance sales outlets in good time for the start of sales; it has not named any prices so far.
What is behind the new brand identity?
According to Messe Dortmund, the new identity is more than a change of logo. The design is meant to translate the variety and dynamism of the motorcycle world into a clear visual language and to make orientation easier for visitors.
The website, social media channels, newsletters and other communication material will be changed over step by step. For exhibitors, the trade and partners, this is intended to create a more consistent environment for their own presentation. As justification for the relaunch, the organiser points to changes in the industry, specifically new vehicle segments and technologies, a broader community and increased expectations of advice and personal exchange.
What did the 2026 edition offer?
For the organiser, the 2026 edition served as evidence that Leipzig works as an early point of reference for the industry. It cites a strong brand presence, premieres, new models and a show programme.
The organiser’s review of 2026 mentions stands from Triumph, KTM, Ducati, Kawasaki and Harley-Davidson, among others, along with programme items such as a trial show, an enduro show in the outdoor area and a riding simulator. For 2027 the show announces that it will develop the exhibition and the supporting programme further. Two-wheeler brands, manufacturers, importers, dealers and suppliers from the accessories, clothing, safety and services sectors are expected. In its pitch to potential exhibitors the organiser speaks of tens of thousands of visitors, although no audited figure is available for this so far.
Where does Leipzig fit into the 2027 trade fair season?
Leipzig traditionally marks the early start of the German motorcycle trade fair season, before the larger spring dates follow. With the switch to the opening weekend at the beginning of February, that role is retained.
This matters for the industry because many manufacturers show their model year novelties to a wide audience for the first time in this phase. Bundling the two locations of Leipzig and Dortmund under a shared brand suggests that Messe Dortmund intends to market its two-wheeler shows more strongly as a connected offering in future. How this affects exhibitor numbers and the programme will only become clear with the 2027 edition.
