Powerful, lighter and more versatile: BMW’s updated GS series.

BMW Motorrad is updating its mid-size touring enduros, including more powerful engines and enhanced assistance systems. The revised GS series offers options for different rider profiles, from beginners to off-road enthusiasts.

Revised models for different rider profiles

BMW Motorrad is bringing a breath of fresh air to its mid-range touring enduros.  The updated range includes the F 900 GS, the F 900 GS Adventure and the F 800 GS.  The F 800 GS in particular is ideal for novice motorcyclists, while the F 900 GS Adventure scores points for long and demanding tours.  All three bikes have undergone extensive changes, from improved drivetrains to more standard equipment.  The F 900 GS in particular has undergone a significant makeover, making it sportier and lighter.

Increased engine power for more driving dynamics

One major change can be found in the engine.  The redesigned two-cylinder in-line engines now have a displacement of 895 cc, compared with the previous 853 cc.  This provides more power and better performance.  The F 900 GS and F 900 GS Adventure have a power output of 105 hp (103.3 hp, 77 kW), while the F 800 GS comes with 87 hp (85.8 hp, 64 kW).  The improved torque curve and increased pulling power should also be emphasized here.

Enhanced riding modes and assistance systems

The new GS range offers two driving modes as standard: “Rain” and “Road”.  In addition, dynamic traction control and cornering-optimized ABS Pro are on board as standard.  Those who want more can add optional “Driving Modes Pro,” which includes additional driving options as well as dynamic brake control.

Design innovations for less weight

BMW relies on sheet steel bridge frames for the frames of the new models, which integrate the engine as a load-bearing element.  The F 900 GS comes with a completely redesigned 14.5-liter plastic fuel tank that is 4.5 kg (9.9 pounds) lighter than the previous steel tank.  Overall, the weight of the F 900 GS has been reduced by 14 kg (30.8 pounds).

Customizable suspension and more off-road capabilities.

For those who love off-road riding, the F 900 GS offers an optional Enduro Pro package with fully adjustable upside-down telescopic forks and special suspension.  There are also optional electronic suspension settings for the F 900 GS Adventure and F 800 GS.

Improved ergonomics and operability

The F 900 GS also scores with optimized ergonomics that make off-road riding easier.  Adjustable shift levers are standard on all models and provide improved operation of the six-speed transmission.

State-of-the-art lighting and connectivity

All models are equipped with powerful LED units, and a large 6.5-inch TFT display is standard.  Convenient phone calls, music listening and navigation are possible via this display.

Fresh design and new color options

The F 900 GS comes in a dynamic and sporty design.  New body elements and colors signal off-road competence and dynamism.  The F 900 GS Adventure and F 800 GS also offer attractive color options.

All in all, BMW Motorrad’s revised GS series presents a very diverse offering in the mid-range, ranging from beginners to off-road enthusiasts.
