BMW M 1000 RR, R and XR: Nürburgring Edition, 100 units each from October

The Nürburgring opened on 18 June 1927. For the anniversary in 2027, BMW M and BMW Motorrad are launching a joint edition. It covers six cars and three motorcycles. All nine models wear a specially developed paint finish in historic Nürburgring Green. The motorcycles also get a long list of equipment. Some of these parts are only available as options on the standard models.

What is the BMW Nürburgring Edition?

The BMW Nürburgring Edition is a joint anniversary series from BMW M and BMW Motorrad marking 100 years of the race track. On the motorcycle side, it comprises the M 1000 RR, the M 1000 R and the M 1000 XR.

The series is officially called “Edition 100 Years Nürburgring”. The design picks up the track’s “100 Years” logo, the “Nürburgring since 1927” lettering and the outline of the circuit. There is also the edition lettering “Born on the Racetrack. Made for the Streets.” BMW wants to show that knowledge from racing feeds into its production machines.

The three motorcycles are based on the respective M models. What sets them apart from the standard versions is the paint, the equipment and the accessories. BMW has not yet published separate technical data for the edition models.

What equipment do the three edition models have?

All three motorcycles get the Nürburgring Green paint finish, the M Track Package, carbon wheels and several anniversary details. Accessories for the garage and the race track are also included.

The most striking feature is the painted tank. It carries the outline of the Nordschleife. The airbox cover wears an anniversary design and the marking “one of 100”. That means every motorcycle is individually identified. The carbon wheels have accent stripes in Nürburgring Green. The swingarm and rear frame are black. The seat has an Alcantara-look finish with an embroidered “100”.

The M Track Package is standard on the edition. On the regular M 1000 RR it is an option. There, the package includes carbon wheels, exposed carbon covers, winglets, milled brake and clutch levers and a rider footrest system, among other items.

Several extras are also part of the package. The M 1000 RR and the M 1000 R come with an M Cover Kit which, according to BMW, is intended for track use. All three models get a motorcycle mat with the anniversary logo and a rear paddock stand including swingarm adapters. A certificate of authenticity documents the limited run.

How do the M 1000 RR, M 1000 R and M 1000 XR differ?

The three edition models share the design, but they remain a superbike, a naked bike and a crossover. There are no separate output and weight figures for the anniversary versions. The values below therefore come from the current production models in Germany.

BMW M 1000 RR: the superbike for the race track

The M 1000 RR is the model in the edition with the strongest track focus. BMW describes it as a superbike homologated for racing. That means it meets the requirements for use in international race series. According to the manufacturer, its engine has proven itself in the Superbike World Championship and in the Endurance World Championship.

The production model delivers 218 hp (160 kW) at 14,500 rpm and 113 Nm (around 83 lb-ft) at 11,100 rpm. The four-cylinder revs to 15,100 rpm. BMW quotes a top speed of 314 km/h (around 195 mph) and a DIN kerb weight of 194 kg (around 428 lbs).

BMW M 1000 R: superbike technology without the fairing

The M 1000 R is what BMW calls a hyper naked bike. It puts superbike output into a machine without a full fairing, aimed at back roads and circuits. The four-cylinder comes from the RR and produces 210 hp (154 kW) at 13,750 rpm in the production model.

BMW quotes a top speed of 280 km/h (around 174 mph). The M 1000 R is said to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and to 200 km/h in 7.2 seconds. Ready to ride with a full tank, it weighs 194 kg (around 428 lbs). That figure, however, includes the M Package and the titanium exhaust system.

BMW M 1000 XR: performance for long distances

The M 1000 XR combines M family performance with a riding position for long distances. BMW calls it a crossover, in other words a mix of sports bike and touring bike that is also designed for riding with a passenger.

The production model delivers 201 hp (148 kW) at 14,600 rpm and reaches 275 km/h (around 171 mph) according to BMW. The XR accelerates to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and to 200 km/h in 7.4 seconds. The DIN kerb weight is 223 kg (around 492 lbs).

Why is BMW dedicating a separate edition to the Nürburgring?

For BMW M and BMW Motorrad, the Nürburgring has been a test track and a benchmark in development for decades. According to the manufacturer, BMW Motorrad’s link to the circuit goes back to its opening year of 1927, when the brand took its first victory there.

The Nordschleife is 20.8 kilometres long and has 73 corners. Large changes in elevation and varying surfaces make it one of the most demanding race tracks in the world. Its nickname “Green Hell” is said to have been coined by former racing driver Sir Jackie Stewart. According to BMW M, the winner of the first 24-hour race in 1970 was also a BMW.

BMW M says it has been active at the Nürburgring for more than 50 years. There, the company tests chassis, drivetrain, aerodynamics, brakes and thermal management under punishing conditions. According to BMW, the results feed directly into production development.

Frank van Meel, Managing Director of BMW M GmbH, describes the Nürburgring as the brand’s second home. He talks about how every BMW M production vehicle is thoroughly tested on the Nordschleife. Markus Flasch, CEO of BMW Motorrad, puts the special models in context: “The Nordschleife has been part of the DNA of our M models for decades. With our special models for the 100th anniversary of the Nürburgring, we are paying tribute to a place that has written motorsport history and that to this day shapes the connection between race track and road like no other.”

Which BMW M cars are part of the anniversary edition?

Alongside the motorcycles, the edition includes six cars from BMW M. They are the M2, the M3 Sedan, the M3 Touring, the M4 Coupé, the M5 Sedan and the M5 Touring.

The cars are available in Nürburgring Green or, alternatively, in Sapphire Black metallic. Depending on the model, they carry graphics on the front doors, the C-pillar and the rear side panels, plus stripes on the roof. The models with the inline six-cylinder use the BMW M Ignite ignition system. It is said to work more efficiently above all under high load and to reduce fuel consumption on the race track. The M3, M4 and M5 have been available to order since September 2026, with the M2 following in January 2027.

When can the BMW Nürburgring Edition be ordered and what does it cost?

The three motorcycles are scheduled to be available to order from 19 October 2026, according to BMW M’s website for the edition. BMW Motorrad has not yet published prices for Germany.

In the press release accompanying the launch, BMW had left the order date for the motorcycles open. For the United Kingdom, however, unit numbers and prices are already known. Nine M 1000 R models are to be offered there at £28,700 each (around 33,480 euros / 38,530 US dollars). There will also be eight M 1000 XR at £31,200 each (around 36,400 euros / 41,880 US dollars) and six M 1000 RR at £43,000 each (around 50,170 euros / 57,720 US dollars).

That means 23 of the 300 motorcycles in total are going to the United Kingdom. Market launch there is planned for June 2027. In the United States, BMW Motorrad is announcing all three models for late 2027. The edition models will therefore reach dealers in the anniversary year of 2027, which makes them part of that model year’s new motorcycles.

The German prices of the production models help put things in perspective. The M 1000 RR starts at 36,300 euros (around 41,770 US dollars), the M 1000 R at 23,290 euros (around 26,800 US dollars) and the M 1000 XR at 26,390 euros (around 30,370 US dollars). How much the edition models will cost in Germany remains open.
