Yamaha 2027: New Colours for the Road, New Technology for the Dirt

Yamaha has unveiled its motorcycle line-up for the 2027 model year, giving many road models a visual refresh. The real technical changes are reserved for the competition bikes, above all the completely revised YZ250F and the WR450F enduro.
  • New paint schemes for the Ténéré 700 Rally, Tracer 9 GT+, XSR900 GP, R1 RACE and the MT range
  • MT-125 gets a new design in the style of the MT-07 and MT-09
  • YZ250F with a new 249 cc engine, WR450F with a revised frame and hydraulic clutch

For its road bikes, Yamaha is focusing on paint and graphics for 2027. New colours run right through the line-up, from the Ténéré 700 adventure bike and the sport tourers of the Tracer 9 family to the naked bikes of the MT range. The manufacturer does not list any technical changes for these models. Off-road, it is a very different story: Yamaha has fundamentally rebuilt the YZ250F motocross bike and changed the WR450F enduro in many areas. As a result, the off-road models also reach dealers much earlier, some as early as autumn 2026. The road models follow between the first and third quarter of 2027. Prices for Germany have not yet been announced.

What changes in the Yamaha 2027 model year?

Most road models get new colours or graphics for the 2027 model year, but no new technology. The technical updates are reserved for the YZ250F and WR450F competition bikes, plus a new design for the MT-125.

At the presentation, Yamaha spoke of the beginning of a new era. For the road bikes, however, the content is almost entirely about looks. This applies to all the major model families: the naked bikes of the MT range, which Yamaha itself calls Hyper Naked, the retro models of the XSR family, the sport tourers built around the Tracer 9 and the Ténéré 700 adventure bike. Among the supersports, only the R1 RACE receives a new paint scheme.

Among the new features of the 2027 model year, Yamaha is therefore relying on model updates rather than new developments for its road bikes. The focus of development work lies on the motocross and enduro machines, which Yamaha groups together under the term Offroad Competition.

What is new on the 2027 Yamaha YZ250F?

The 2027 YZ250F has a completely redesigned engine and takes its frame, suspension and bodywork from the larger YZ450F. According to Yamaha, the four-stroke delivers more power and torque across the entire rev range, although the manufacturer does not give specific figures.

Engine: higher revs and new valve actuation

The liquid-cooled single displaces 249 cc and has double overhead camshafts. The valve actuation on the intake side is new. Finger followers derived from the YZF-R1 supersport bike now work here, together with double valve springs. This is the first time Yamaha has used this solution in a YZ model. The rev limit is 700 rpm higher than on the predecessor.

The compression ratio rises from 13.8:1 to 14.1:1. The piston has a thinner and lighter top ring and a larger piston pin, and the crankshaft is more robust. To keep the engine easy to control at low revs, Yamaha has increased the flywheel mass by eight percent. Despite the higher output, the YZ250F is said to comply with FIM and AMA noise regulations; the airbox and exhaust were revised for this purpose.

The gearbox has new ratios and wider gears. From the YZ450F comes a dry sump lubrication system, designed to ensure a consistent oil circuit at high revs. Also new is a hydraulically operated clutch, which Yamaha carries over from the 2026 YZ450F. It is said to require less lever effort and to offer a consistent engagement point, so no adjustment is needed at the track.

As before, the engine characteristics can be adjusted via the Power Tuner smartphone app. Yamaha has tuned the traction and launch control to the new engine. There is also an anti-theft feature: the app can lock the engine control unit with a password, so unauthorised persons cannot start the engine.

Chassis and brakes from the YZ450F

The aluminium frame matches that of the YZ450F, with a thinner front downtube and new engine mounts. The KYB fork and shock also come from the bigger model but are specifically tuned for the 250. The shock has more damping and a new low-speed compression adjuster that can be adjusted by hand without tools.

The rear brake has become smaller and lighter. The disc shrinks from 240 to 220 millimetres, and the caliper pistons and master cylinder are also smaller. The tip of the brake pedal is now bolted on instead of riveted, making it easier to replace. Visually, the YZ250F is brought into line with the YZ450F, with a slimmer front number plate, two-piece side panels and a seat cover with a honeycomb pattern designed to give more grip under acceleration.

According to Yamaha, Haiden Deegan and Cole Davies won both 250 class titles in the US Supercross Championship on the YZ250F in 2026, with 16 of 17 main events going to the model.

What changes does the 2027 WR450F get?

For 2027, the WR450F receives a revised aluminium frame, a hydraulic clutch, a new shock and a lighter rear brake. The engine has also been adapted so that it responds more smoothly off-road and stalls less often.

In its European line-up overview, Yamaha itself highlights above all the chassis. The frame is not a completely new component, but it has been changed in a targeted way. The tube running down from the steering head is reinforced at the top and slimmer at the bottom. Added to this are asymmetric engine mounts. This is intended to give the frame a little more flex and provide the rider with better feedback in slow, technical sections. The KYB fork has a more progressive setting, and the new shock has a modified piston and, as on the YZ250F, a hand-adjustable compression adjuster.

On the engine side, Yamaha is focusing on low and mid-range performance. Revised camshaft timing, a reworked intake port and a heavier generator flywheel are intended to provide a more even power delivery. At the rear sits a sprocket with 51 instead of 50 teeth. The hydraulic clutch is now standard, and the rear brake disc shrinks from 240 to 220 millimetres, as on the YZ250F. Together with the other brake parts, this saves 180 grams.

The smaller WR250F remains largely unchanged in terms of engine and chassis. It gets new graphics in Icon Blue and, like the WR450F, the anti-theft feature via the Power Tuner app.

Which other off-road models does Yamaha offer for 2027?

In addition to the YZ250F and WR450F, Yamaha offers further motocross, enduro and youth models for 2027, which mainly receive new graphics in Icon Blue. The YZ450F remains technically unchanged.

For the YZ450F and YZ250F four-strokes as well as the YZ250 and YZ125 two-strokes, there is once again a Monster Energy Yamaha Racing Edition with graphics modelled on the factory bikes. In the leisure and youth segment, the TT-R125, TT-R110, TT-R50 and PW50 receive new graphics.

Back in the summer, Yamaha also revised its two-strokes for young riders. The YZ85 gets a new reed valve intake, revised timing for the YPVS exhaust power valve for more pull at low revs, an aluminium cylinder head and a heavier flywheel. The YZ65 receives minor changes such as new front wheel bearings, a new handlebar pad and a new seat cover.

Which colours are available for the 2027 Yamaha MT models?

For 2027, the MT range gets the new colour Redline, which is offered on all models except the MT-09 SP. The MT-125 also receives a completely new design inspired by the MT-07 and MT-09.

The MT-09 and MT-07 are each also available with the Y-AMT automated manual transmission. Alongside Redline, both models are available at dealers in Ice Storm, Icon Blue and Tech Black. The MT-03 is offered in Redline, Ice Storm and Tech Black. On the MT-125, the new variant is called Redline White, and it is also available in Ice Storm, Icon Blue and Tech Black.

The MT-09 SP keeps its sporty Icon Performance paint scheme, but Yamaha has revised the graphics. The change goes much further on the MT-125: the 125 cc bike for the A1 licence adopts the more aggressive look of its larger siblings.

XSR900 and XSR900 GP: colours with racing history

On the retro models, which Yamaha groups under the term Sport Heritage, both new colours draw on well-known role models. The XSR900 GP is newly available in Legend Blue. The paint scheme is reminiscent of French Grand Prix rider Christian Sarron. The previous colour Legend Yellow remains in the line-up.

The XSR900 is new in Neon White. The inspiration is the pink YZF 750R from the 1990s. Midnight Black also remains available. Yamaha does not list any technical changes for either model.

Ténéré 700 and Tracer 9: new paint schemes for touring and adventure

For 2027, the Ténéré 700 is available in Icon Blue with new graphics and in the new colour Crystal Graphite. This also applies to the lowered version. Yamaha speaks of slimmer lines and new graphics for the adventure bike. The Ténéré 700 Rally comes in Heritage White, which is intended to recall Yamaha’s successes in rally racing.

In the Tracer 9 family, each variant gets its own colours. The base version is newly available in Power Blue, while Midnight Black receives new graphics. The Tracer 9 GT is new in Ceramic Grey, and Tech Black gets revised graphics. Both models are also available with Y-AMT. The top-of-the-range Tracer 9 GT+ comes in two new colours: Galaxy Blue and Performance Silver.

Which supersport bikes does Yamaha offer for 2027?

For 2027, Yamaha offers the R1 RACE, R9, R7, R3 and R125 supersport models. The only new feature is the Icon Blue paint scheme for the R1 RACE.

According to Yamaha, the R9 remains the flagship of the supersport range. Below it are the R7, R3 and R125, for which Yamaha lists no changes.

When will the 2027 Yamaha models arrive at dealers?

The off-road models arrive as early as the third and fourth quarter of 2026, the road models between the first and third quarter of 2027. Most road bikes are expected to be available in the first quarter of 2027.

The Ténéré 700 including the Rally version, the XSR900, all MT models and the R1 RACE launch in the first quarter of 2027. The XSR900 GP in Legend Blue follows in the second quarter. The Tracer 9 family takes the longest, arriving only in the third quarter of 2027.

Off-road, things start earlier. The YZ250F in Icon Blue is due to be available from September 2026, as are the YZ250, YZ125 and PW50 in Icon Blue. The YZ450F, both WR models, the TT-R models and all Monster Energy Editions follow in the fourth quarter of 2026. For the YZ250F Monster Energy Edition, Yamaha states November 2026.

How much do the new 2027 Yamaha models cost?

Yamaha has not yet published German prices for the 2027 model year; Yamaha dealers can provide information. However, prices from other markets are already available for some off-road models.

In the UK, the 2027 WR450F costs £9,400 (approx. €11,235 / $12,530), the WR250F £8,950 (approx. €10,700 / $11,930). In the USA, Yamaha charges $9,099 (approx. €8,160) for the YZ250F, while the Monster Energy Edition costs $9,299 (approx. €8,340). The WR450F is priced there at $10,499 (approx. €9,415), the WR250F at $9,199 (approx. €8,250). The conversions are based on the current exchange rate. Due to different taxes and additional costs, the prices cannot be transferred directly to the German market.
