What is Zero Motorcycles’ “Design the Future” development program?
Zero Motorcycles, the world’s leading electric motorcycle manufacturer, regularly brings together some of the industry’s most talented designers and engineers as part of its “Design the Future” development program to continually push the boundaries of what is possible in electric motorcycles.
The goal of the program is to define what the future of vehicles in the “Electric Powersports” market could look like. To date, the program’s developments have produced some of the most innovative and creative electric motorcycles in the world. The SR-X concept bike is the latest project in this series.
The design of the SR-X
HUGE Design led the way in shaping the SR-X. Its director Bill Webb was already responsible for the design of the popular Zero model FXE and its concept bike predecessor Zero SM. The semi-clad concept bike is based on Zero Motorcycles’ electric powertrain, combining exhilarating performance with a unique, stylish appearance.
The concept motorcycle is described by designer Billy Webb as an attempt to define a new sub-category for high-performance electric motorcycles that falls somewhere between a streetfighter and a race bike. The SR-X combines an aerodynamic partial fairing with the rugged attitude of the street. The bodywork creates a consistently low, front-focused silhouette that unconventionally contrasts with the fully exposed mechanical components in the rear of the bike.
Powered by Zero’s advanced ZF75-10 electric motor and the latest ZF17.3 lithium-ion battery, the SR-X aims to represent a pioneering vision for the future of motorcycling.
