Unveiling on Friday evening in Barcelona
According to an official announcement by Aprilia Racing, the new machine will be presented on Friday, September 5, at 9 p.m. in Barcelona. A press release states:
“There will also be a special event this weekend. On Friday, September 5, at 9 p.m., the new X will be unveiled – an exclusive limited edition motorcycle to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the RS-GP’s debut in the premier class of the World Motorcycle Championship.”
Fifth model in the X family
The new model is already the fifth member of Aprilia’s so-called X family. Previous special models such as the RSV4 X, Tuono V4 X, RSV4 XTrenta, and most recently the RSV4 X ex3ma were each produced in very small numbers. The ex3ma, for example, was limited to only 30 units. It incorporated numerous technologies directly from the brand’s MotoGP program.
The new X GP is likely to be similar. The name was already revealed in the summer when the parent company Piaggio registered the trademark. Everything indicates that the X GP will also incorporate high-end technology from MotoGP and transfer it to a road-based but strictly limited series model. The aim is to translate the brand’s racing DNA into an exclusive riding experience.
Strong exclusivity expected
Although no official technical data is available yet, the positioning of the model as a limited anniversary edition suggests that it will be an extremely powerful and lightweight motorcycle – in keeping with the tradition of Aprilia’s previous X models. Production is likely to be limited to a small number of units, making the motorcycle interesting not only for collectors but also for enthusiasts of MotoGP technology on two wheels.
