Suzuki SV-7GX: The V-Twin Lives On as a Crossover Starting at €7,999

Suzuki surprises with the SV-7GX, breathing new life into its legendary 645 cc V-twin. The middleweight crossover will be available from dealers starting in fall 2026 with prices from €7,999.
  • Proven 645 cc V-twin engine with 54 kW (73 hp) meets Euro 5+
  • Starting price at €7,999, Touring Edition from €8,999
  • Ride-by-wire, three riding modes, traction control, and bidirectional quickshifter as standard

Many industry observers had already written off Suzuki’s 645 cc V-twin. The SV650 and V-Strom 650 were not updated to the Euro 5+ standard, which has been in effect since early 2025, in most markets outside the United States and have since been running under phase-out regulations. With the new 776 cc parallel-twin platform spanning from the GSX-8S through the GSX-8R to the V-Strom 800 and GSX-8TT, the logical successor for the entire SV model family already seemed established. The fact that Suzuki is now bringing the over 25-year-old V-twin up to Euro 5+ and packaging it in an entirely new crossover concept therefore comes as quite a surprise. The SV-7GX was unveiled at EICMA in Milan in November 2025, and Suzuki Germany has now confirmed pricing for the market launch in fall 2026.

How Much Does the Suzuki SV-7GX Cost in Germany?

The Suzuki SV-7GX will be available from German Suzuki dealers starting in fall 2026. In the Pearl Brilliant White (YUH) color variant, the starting price is €7,999 (approximately $8,640). Three additional color options are available from €8,299 (approximately $8,960) each: Pearl Brilliant White / Metallic Triton Blue (BQJ), Pearl Matte Greige (Q2A), and Glass Sparkle Black (YVB). All prices are MSRP ex-works plus ancillary costs.

This positions the SV-7GX very aggressively in terms of pricing within the middleweight segment. Compared to direct competitors, it sits at a level that makes entry into the crossover class highly accessible. In the United Kingdom, a price of £6,999 (approximately €8,370 / $9,040) has been announced.

What Equipment Does the Touring Edition Offer?

Alongside the base model, Suzuki is launching the SV-7GX Touring Edition at market launch. According to Suzuki, it targets riders who focus on longer journeys and is priced at €8,999 (approximately $9,720). The Touring Edition is available in Pearl Brilliant White / Metallic Triton Blue (BQJ), Pearl Matte Greige (Q2A), and Glass Sparkle Black (YVB).

The Touring Edition’s standard equipment includes a large tank bag with adapter ring, a soft bag set with mounting kit, a tall touring screen, and a tank pad. The tank bag is made of nylon, holds 11 liters, and can be expanded to 14 liters. A rain cover and magnetic mounting system are integrated. The soft bag set offers a total volume of 35 liters. The raised touring screen is 80 millimeters taller than the standard windshield and is designed to noticeably improve weather protection on long stretches.

How Much Power Does the SV-7GX V-Twin Produce?

At the heart of the SV-7GX sits Suzuki’s proven 645 cc V-twin with a 90-degree cylinder angle, liquid-cooled, featuring a DOHC valve train and four valves per cylinder. According to Suzuki, this engine has powered more than 500,000 motorcycles over more than 25 years. For the SV-7GX, it has been extensively reworked. The bore measures 81.0 mm, the stroke 62.6 mm, with a compression ratio of 11.2:1.

In European specification, the engine produces 54 kW (73 hp) at 8,500 rpm and develops a maximum torque of 64 Nm at 6,800 rpm. Suzuki has engineered a new intake system with a shortened outlet on the airbox tube, designed to provide a power curve that opens up more strongly in the upper rev range. Dual-iridium spark plugs, optimized fuel injectors, and downdraft throttle bodies are intended to improve combustion efficiency. A new 2-into-1 exhaust system with catalytic converter and O2 sensors before and after the catalyst ensures compliance with the Euro 5+ standard.

For the first time, this engine features a ride-by-wire system, replacing the cable-operated throttle of previous generations. This upgrade enables the integration of three riding modes via the Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (SDMS): Mode A delivers a more direct throttle response for sportier riding, Mode B offers balanced response for everyday use, and Mode C reduces throttle sensitivity to a gentler level and limits power to 60 hp, making it suitable for wet conditions or use with an A2 license.

The electronics package is complemented by a three-stage traction control system (STCS) with an additional off option, an ABS system, a bidirectional quickshifter for clutchless shifting in both directions, an easy-start system, and a low-RPM assist function that briefly raises engine speed when pulling away to reduce stalling. The gearbox is a 6-speed constant-mesh unit.

What Makes the SV-7GX a Crossover?

Suzuki defines the crossover category through the combination of 17-inch street wheels for direct handling with an upright, commanding riding position. The SV-7GX thus positions itself between the sporty SV650 and the touring-oriented V-Strom 650, targeting a segment in which Suzuki’s 776 cc parallel-twin platform has not yet been represented.

Visually, the SV-7GX takes its cues from the larger GSX-S1000GX. According to Suzuki, the side fairings were developed in a wind tunnel to reduce pressure on the rider’s chest and helmet. Thanks to the V-twin configuration, the SV-7GX offers a narrower profile than the GSX-S1000GX with its inline-four. A three-position adjustable windshield and integrated hand guards provide additional weather protection as standard.

The frame is based on the SV650’s steel trellis frame but has been reworked to lower the center of gravity and introduce a defined degree of flex. Ergonomically, the SV-7GX rider sits closer to the SV650 than to the V-Strom 650. Compared to the SV650, the handlebar has been raised by approximately 18 mm and moved about 23 mm closer to the rider, while the footpegs sit roughly 10 mm lower. The 740 mm wide, tapered aluminum handlebar provides additional leverage.

What Is the Seat Height of the SV-7GX?

The seat height is 795 mm, making the SV-7GX one of the more accessible models in its segment. The seat has been redesigned compared to previous SV models and, according to the manufacturer, offers 10 mm more padding for the rider and 20 mm more for the pillion. Together with the narrow transition between the seat and tank, it is designed to make ground contact easier, especially for shorter riders.

Suzuki quotes the wet weight at 211 kg (465 lbs). The wheelbase is 1,445 mm, ground clearance is 135 mm, and the steering head angle is 25 degrees with 106 mm of trail.

How Is the SV-7GX Suspension Set Up?

At the front, a 41 mm telescopic fork with hydraulic damping provides 125 mm of travel. At the rear, a link-type monoshock with seven-stage adjustable spring preload offers 129 mm of travel. The braking system consists of two floating 290 mm discs with four-piston axial-mount calipers at the front and a single 240 mm disc at the rear.

The 17-inch cast aluminum wheels come fitted as standard with Pirelli Angel GT II sport-touring tires. The front uses the 120/70ZR17 dimension, while the rear runs 160/60ZR17.

What Standard Equipment Does the SV-7GX Include?

The instrumentation consists of a 4.2-inch full-color TFT display with automatic brightness adjustment. Via the Suzuki Ride Connect+ app, the display can be paired with a smartphone (iOS and Android) to access turn-by-turn navigation, notifications, and additional features. An integrated USB-C charging port is also available.

The lighting is fully LED. A compact dual-function LED projector headlight provides low and high beam, flanked by slim LED position lights. Turn signals and taillight are also LED. At the rear, a steel tube luggage rack is integrated, visually extending the trellis frame while also serving as a pillion grab handle.

The tank holds 17.4 liters. With a combined fuel consumption of 4.2 liters per 100 kilometers according to WMTC, this results in a calculated range of approximately 414 kilometers. CO2 emissions are 97 g/km. The SV-7GX is eligible for both A and A2 license categories.

Who Does the SV-7GX Compete Against?

The Suzuki SV-7GX enters an increasingly competitive segment. The Yamaha Tracer 7 is likely its closest rival. It offers comparable power with slightly more torque and slightly less weight, and for the 2026 model year can be ordered with Yamaha’s Y-AMT semi-automatic transmission. The Triumph Tiger Sport 660 relies on a characterful triple with slightly more power than the competing twins. The Kawasaki Versys 650 is positioned as a budget-friendly option and shares the SV-7GX’s 17-inch tire fitment on both wheels. The Honda NC750X also belongs to the broader competitive field.

In this comparison, Suzuki’s crossover can argue its case primarily with its price point, the V-twin character with uneven firing intervals, and the freshness of a completely new model. At the same time, the Euro 5+ certification of the V-twin opens the possibility that a renewed SV650 or V-Strom 650 could also return to markets where these models were recently discontinued.

What Accessories Does Suzuki Offer for the SV-7GX?

Beyond the Touring Edition package, Suzuki lists an extensive range of genuine accessories. These include a top case with Suzuki logo (separately available adapter required), side bags with 15 to 20 liters of volume each (also requiring a separate mounting kit), heated grips with three heat levels, a 25 mm higher comfort seat, and engine guard bars. For tank bags and panniers, a maximum load of 3 kg at a top speed of 130 km/h applies.
