- Design patent for the production version of the Lompico Concept registered at the EUIPO on May 7, 2026
- New Cypher 4 operating system with predictive diagnostics, adaptive performance, and enhanced connectivity
- 8.8 kWh battery, approximately 30 kW (about 41 hp), fast charging to 80 percent in under one hour
- Trademark application for the name “Zero SF” filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office in June 2025
When Zero Motorcycles unveiled the Lompico Concept in November 2025 at EICMA in Milan, CEO Pierre-Martin Bos spoke of a new era for the American electric motorcycle manufacturer. Just over half a year later, signs are mounting that the design study will indeed become a production model. On April 30, 2026, Zero filed a design patent with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), which was registered on May 7. Kenyon Kluge, Vice President of Design and Engineering at Zero, and Matthew Bentley, Senior Director of Industrial Design, are listed as the responsible designers.

What is the Zero Lompico Concept?
The Lompico Concept is a design study that Zero Motorcycles positions as a technology demonstrator for upcoming production models. It was presented at EICMA 2025 in Milan alongside the new LS1 electric scooter and the updated 2026 model year. Both new offerings are part of the so-called “All-Access” initiative, through which Zero aims to build a product range under 10,000 US dollars (approximately 9,200 euros).
Visually, the Lompico breaks with the rather functional design that has characterized Zero in the past. Angular bodywork panels, a floating rear end, and a distinctive LED light signature give the concept a significantly more futuristic appearance than the previous production models. In terms of proportions, the Lompico falls in the range of compact naked bikes, comparable to combustion-engined models in the 400 to 500 cc class. Observers specifically name the Kawasaki Z500, Aprilia Tuono 457, and Yamaha MT-03 as competitors against which the Lompico could position itself.
What are the technical specifications of the Lompico Concept?
At its core sits a battery with 8.8 kWh capacity, which Zero says is designed for optimal energy density and range. The electric motor is said to deliver a peak output of approximately 30 kW (about 41 hp). This places the Lompico in the A2 license category, making it equally interesting for both new and progressing riders. Zero states that the battery can be configured to charge from 0 to 80 percent in under one hour. Particularly for urban use and shorter rides, this would represent a relevant advancement, as charging time remains one of the central arguments against electric motorcycles among committed combustion engine riders.
For the chassis, Zero states it uses a lightweight trellis frame, high-quality suspension, and an advanced traction control system. ABS and traction control are said to come as standard. Additionally, the manufacturer mentions remote diagnostics and an integrated anti-theft system.

What can the new Cypher 4 operating system do?
At the heart of the Lompico Concept sits the new Cypher 4 operating system, which Zero has developed as a platform for the next generation of its electric motorcycles. Cypher 4 is said to offer improved connectivity, adaptive performance settings, predictive diagnostics, and enhanced safety features. The system integrates with both an onboard display and a companion smartphone app. Through the app, riders should be able to monitor charge status, adjust riding modes, and access vehicle data from anywhere. Zero has announced further details about Cypher 4 for 2026.
The topic of software-based features is somewhat sensitive territory for Zero. In the past, the manufacturer drew criticism with a subscription model for certain vehicle functions. Some owners expressed dissatisfaction that functions already present in the motorcycle had to be unlocked for an additional fee. Whether Cypher 4 takes a different approach in this regard has not been communicated by Zero so far.
What do the design patents reveal about the production version?
The design drawings registered at the EUIPO show several changes compared to the concept shown at EICMA that point to a production-ready model. The most obvious addition is mirrors, which are mandatory for a street-legal motorcycle. Additionally, a new license plate holder has been integrated that sits closer to the tire. The front fender has been revised and now omits the cover in the axle area.
The riding position with handlebar, seat, and footpeg placement appears unchanged from the concept. The seating position thus remains relatively upright with a slight knee bend. The battery case receives additional protection behind the front fender, and the trellis frame appears identical to that of the Lompico Concept.
At the front end, it is notable that the headlight protrudes further from the fairing and is better integrated into the bodywork. Together with the side position lights, it forms a continuous line. The TFT display has also received a new mount whose angle is matched to the headlight’s tilt.

Will the production model be called Zero SF?
It is considered unlikely that the finished motorcycle will retain the Lompico name. As early as June 2025, Zero filed a trademark application for the designation “Zero SF” with the US Patent and Trademark Office. In a brief excerpt of the concept video, a drawing of the Lompico’s rear was visible showing the letters “SF” below the pillion seat. The SF designation would fit into Zero’s existing naming convention, which uses abbreviations like SR/F, SR/S, DSR/X, or FXE.
What does the Lompico Concept mean for Zero Motorcycles’ strategy?
Zero Motorcycles celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2025 as a pioneer in the electric two-wheeler space. With the Lompico Concept and the simultaneously unveiled LS1 electric scooter, the manufacturer is pursuing a clear strategy: away from an exclusive focus on expensive premium models, toward a broader and more affordable product range. The “All-Access” initiative aims to position all new models below a price ceiling of 10,000 US dollars (approximately 9,200 euros).
CEO Pierre-Martin Bos, who took over company leadership from Sam Paschel after the latter moved into an advisory role following eight years at the helm, articulated the ambition: “Lompico is our invitation to rethink what an electric motorcycle can be. By provoking conversation and pushing boundaries, we’re not just launching a new product — we’re pushing the envelope on innovation.”
The timing is noteworthy, as the electric motorcycle market continues to struggle with high prices and limited mainstream acceptance. Whether the Lompico Concept, or rather the likely production version as the Zero SF, can solve this fundamental problem remains to be seen. The presentation of the production model is expected at EICMA 2026 in November in Milan.
Alongside the Lompico Concept, Zero also updated the existing 2026 model year. The S and DS models received a 3.3 kW onboard charger for faster charging and a firmware-upgraded battery now offering 15.6 kWh instead of the previous 14.4 kWh. The SR/F received a subtle update with additional aero strakes and a newly designed engine cover inspired by the SR/F racing motorcycle that competed at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in 2019.
