Ducati Diavel for Bentley: CARB Filings Point to a Second Edition

Californian registration documents list two model names that do not exist in Ducati’s current line-up. Both point to a renewed collaboration between Ducati and British car manufacturer Bentley.
  • CARB filings for model year 2027 list a Diavel for Bentley and a Diavel for Bentley Mulliner
  • The documents only confirm emissions approval, not technical details
  • The first joint edition from 2023 comprised 500 plus 50 numbered motorcycles

If a manufacturer wants to sell a motorcycle in the United States, it has to register the machine with the California Air Resources Board beforehand. These filings are public and often reveal which models are in the pipeline months before the official launch. That is exactly what has happened at Ducati: the certification for model year 2027 lists two Diavel variants carrying the Bentley name. So far there has been no official announcement from Bologna.

What do the CARB filings say about the Ducati Diavel for Bentley?

The documents list two additional variants: a Ducati Diavel for Bentley and a Ducati Diavel for Bentley Mulliner. Both appear in the same certification as the standard Diavel V4.

The timeline is easy to follow. Ducati registered the Diavel V4 range for model year 2027 with CARB in March. That first version covered three variants: the base model plus the two Bentley versions. On 26 August the agency then signed an amended version of the approval, adding a fourth variant, the Diavel V4 S. That changes nothing for the two Bentley entries, which were part of the filing from the outset.

Why does the Mulliner badge matter?

Mulliner is Bentley’s in-house coachbuilding division and stands for bespoke commissions and small series. The name therefore signals an even more highly customisable version.

The division has existed in various forms for more than a hundred years. At Bentley it sits at the very top of the range and handles vehicles that are personalised far beyond the series models. Bentley itself describes Mulliner as the oldest coachbuilder in the world.

The fact that the same two-tier split reappears in the registration paperwork suggests Ducati is continuing the 2023 concept: a regular limited edition and, above it, a smaller, more extensively configurable tier.

What the registration documents do not reveal

CARB filings are not a spec sheet. They deal with emissions figures, environmental compliance and the requirements attached to it. What the motorcycles look like, what they cost, how many will be built and when they reach dealers is not stated there.

Much also remains open on the technical side. It is known that the models named are based on the Diavel V4, but whether Ducati is making changes to the chassis or the electronics for the new Bentley edition is not apparent from the documents.

What did the first Ducati Diavel for Bentley look like?

The first joint edition was shown in December 2023 during Art Basel week in Miami Beach. It was limited to 500 numbered examples, joined by 50 units of the Mulliner variant, which were reserved exclusively for Bentley customers.

The model it drew on was the Bentley Batur, a hand-built small-series car. According to Ducati, the Batur, with its twin-turbo W12 and 740 hp (544 kW), is the most powerful production vehicle in the brand’s history, and 18 were built. The kinship showed in many places on the motorcycle: the side air intakes pick up the car’s two-tone radiator grille, the triangular rear outlets reference corresponding elements of the bodywork, and the mudguards, fairing and the top of the tank echo the ribs of the bonnet.

Technology and equipment of the 2023 edition

The Scarab Green paintwork comes from the Bentley Mulliner palette. The forged wheels were designed specifically for this motorcycle and finished in Dark Titanium Satin, with some machined surfaces left unpainted. Many body panels are made of carbon fibre, including the mudguards, headlight cover and the engine, exhaust and radiator covers. The rider seat in black Alcantara allows the red fabric underneath to show through and carries an embroidered Bentley logo.

Every motorcycle was delivered with a certificate of authenticity, a bike cover and a passenger seat, packed in a personalised wooden crate. The model name and production number are engraved on a plate set into the carbon cover of the front cylinder head. On start-up, the TFT display and LED tail light show a dedicated animation. Anyone ordering the 50-unit Mulliner series could colour-match the seat, front brake calipers, carbon parts and wheels, and have the bodywork painted in the shade of their own car.

The Diavel for Bentley is powered by the 1,158 cc V4 Granturismo producing 168 hp (123 kW) at 10,750 rpm and 126 Nm (93 lb-ft) at 7,500 rpm. The model was also accompanied by a capsule collection with an open-face helmet and a leather jacket, available in a men’s and a women’s version.

Which car collaborations has Ducati done before?

Ducati has been working with car manufacturers on and off for years. The 2023 Bentley edition was not the first limited series of its kind.

In 2013 the Diavel Carbon AMG was created together with Mercedes’ performance division, with 743 examples built. Later came the Diavel 1260 Lamborghini, modelled on the group sister brand from Sant’Agata, with slightly more than 600 units worldwide. It was also the last limited Diavel with a V2 engine, because the V4 platform took over at the end of 2022.

When could the reveal happen?

No date is known. The Ducati World Première for model year 2027 is already under way, however, and this presentation series traditionally ends shortly before EICMA in Milan.

Last year the series started on 12 September. If Ducati follows its usual pattern, a reveal of the new Bentley models in the coming weeks would be plausible. That is not confirmed.

All of this fits into a bigger picture: several changes are taking shape for the Diavel in model year 2027. Alongside the two Bentley versions, the Diavel V4 S appears in the same paperwork, and design registrations point to features including electronically controlled Skyhook suspension, revised radiator covers, new air intakes in the style of the Diavel V4 RS, a new wheel design and a modified exhaust system. The engine is expected to remain unchanged.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the Ducati Diavel for Bentley?

The Ducati Diavel for Bentley is a limited edition of the Diavel V4 created together with Bentley in 2023. It comprised 500 numbered motorcycles plus 50 examples of the Mulliner variant. The design draws on the Bentley Batur.

  • What does Mulliner mean on the Ducati Diavel?

Mulliner is Bentley’s coachbuilding division for bespoke commissions and small series. On the Diavel the name denotes a version reserved for Bentley customers that could be further tailored in terms of seat, brake calipers, carbon parts, wheels and paintwork.

  • How much power does the Ducati Diavel V4 have?

The Diavel V4 produces 168 hp (123 kW) at 10,750 rpm. The 1,158 cc V4 Granturismo delivers a maximum torque of 126 Nm (93 lb-ft) at 7,500 rpm.

  • What do CARB filings reveal about new motorcycles?

CARB filings confirm that a model meets Californian emissions regulations and is therefore being prepared for sale. They contain model designations and emissions data, but no information on equipment, price, production numbers or sales start.

  • When is the new Ducati Diavel for Bentley coming?

No date has been announced so far. The listing for model year 2027 and the start of the Ducati World Première suggest that a reveal in the coming weeks is possible.
