Ducati’s next Sport Production variant is taking shape. After a new Panigale V4 SP for 2027 showed up in August in the files of the Californian authority California Air Resources Board, CARB for short, the Streetfighter V4 now follows. The agency has extended its certification for the naked bike to include an SP version. Ducati has not officially confirmed the model yet. The document does not reveal much, but a look at the previous SP models shows which direction things are likely to take.
What does the CARB certification say about the Streetfighter V4 SP?
The certification confirms that a Streetfighter V4 SP is planned for 2027 and that it shares its engine and emissions data with the other V4 models. No further technical differences emerge from the document.
The timing is interesting. On 2 March, CARB first issued what is known as an Executive Order, an official certification, for the Streetfighter V4 and V4 S of model year 2027. On 13 August this certification was updated. The only change was the additional SP variant.
The pattern is already familiar from the Panigale. There too, the new V4 SP first appeared in the CARB files without Ducati having announced anything itself. The Streetfighter followed a good month later. For 2027, Ducati therefore appears to be planning two new SP models on a V4 basis.
Which engine powers the new Streetfighter V4 SP?
The new SP uses the familiar Desmosedici Stradale with 1,103 cc and a 90-degree cylinder angle. All models in the range share this V4.
The certification does not state specific power figures for the SP. Since the engine and emissions data match the existing versions, output is likely to be in line with the current V4 S and V4 S Corse. Those two models are quoted at 214 hp (157 kW) and around 120 Nm (88.5 lb-ft). Whether Ducati changes anything about the tuning on the SP remains open.
How was the first Streetfighter V4 SP from 2022 equipped?
The first Streetfighter V4 SP arrived in 2022 as a numbered series and was conceived as a sportier version of the Streetfighter V4 S. The engine remained unchanged, but the chassis, brakes and clutch differed noticeably from the standard model.
At the time, Ducati quoted a kerb weight of 196 kg (432 lbs), three kilograms less than the V4 S. As on the other variants, the V4 produced 208 hp (153 kW) and delivered a maximum torque of 123 Nm (90.7 lb-ft) at 9,500 rpm to the crankshaft. According to the manufacturer, some components came from the Superleggera V4.
Dry clutch and carbon wheels
One key innovation was the STM-EVO SBK dry clutch. Unlike the oil-bath clutch of the standard model, Ducati said it worked better against a hopping rear wheel under hard downshifting and responded more evenly in all braking phases. On the race track in particular, when the bike is ridden at the limit, that is said to be a decisive point.
The following equipment details were part of the package:
- Carbon wheels with five split spokes instead of aluminium rims
- Semi-active Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 suspension with a setup taken from the Panigale
- Brembo Stylema R calipers and an adjustable Brembo MCS 19/21 master cylinder
- Adjustable, CNC-machined aluminium footpegs
- Carbon front mudguard
- Lithium-ion battery
Visually, the SP relied on matte black fairing parts, matte carbon on the wheels and winglets, red accents and a brushed aluminium tank.
The SP2 with winter test livery
In 2023, Ducati revised the Streetfighter V4 and additionally introduced an SP2. It carried over the dry clutch, the Panigale suspension setup, the carbon wheels, the Stylema R brakes and the machined footpegs. New was the paint scheme in what is known as the winter test design. It echoes the colours the Ducati teams use in MotoGP and the Superbike World Championship during pre-season testing.
The SP2 remained on offer for model years 2024 and 2025 as well. However, it did not receive the major overhaul of the Streetfighter V4 for 2025 with its revised engine, stiffer frame, double-sided swingarm and new electronics. For 2026, Ducati dropped the SP2 from the range without any major announcement.
What can be expected from the Streetfighter V4 SP 2027?
There is no official information on the equipment yet. It is likely that the new SP will be based on the current Streetfighter V4 and will receive similar track-focused components to its predecessors.
Based on the pattern so far, these include a dry clutch, lightweight carbon wheels, upgraded suspension, stronger brakes, machined aluminium footpegs and a dedicated paint scheme. The electronically controlled Öhlins suspension is also mentioned. On the brakes, a switch to Brembo Hypure calipers is considered possible. None of this has been confirmed so far.
What would be new above all is the basis. Unlike the SP2, the coming SP would benefit from the 2025 overhaul, meaning the revised engine, the stiffer frame, the double-sided swingarm and the newer electronics.
Where does the SP fit into the Streetfighter range?
The new SP would join an already broad model family. Alongside two models with a V2 engine, the Streetfighter range comprises the V4, the V4 S, the V4 S Corse, the V4 S 100 and the strictly limited V4 Supreme.
In the hierarchy, the SP is likely to sit below the V4 S 100. Since the V4 S 100 is built in limited numbers only, the SP would therefore be the sports-focused Streetfighter at the top of the freely available range. In parallel, Ducati is adding a corresponding variant to the Superbike family with the Panigale V4 SP.
When will Ducati unveil the Streetfighter V4 SP?
There is no official date yet. Ducati is expected to present the Streetfighter V4 SP over the coming months as part of its World Première videos, at the latest by EICMA in November in Milan.
The new Panigale V4 SP could also be on show at the fair. That would make the Streetfighter V4 SP one of the Ducati novelties for model year 2027 that are presented together in the autumn. No information on price and production numbers is available so far. Whether the new SP will again appear as a numbered series like the 2022 model is also still open.
