Benda Dark Flag 600: More power, less weight than the 500 Commander

Benda showed the Dark Flag 600 Ultra EC at EICMA 2026, a V4 cruiser with an electronic clutch and automatically lowering air suspension. Compared with the familiar Dark Flag 500 Commander, it gains around 23 hp and still weighs six kilos less.
  • V4 with 598.5 cc, 70.7 hp (52 kW) at 10,500 rpm and 55 Nm
  • Curb weight 254 kg, seat height 680 to 730 mm, A2 version with 35 kW announced
  • European launch in 2027, in China from 32,800 yuan (approx. 4,413 euros / 4,930 US dollars)

With the new 600, Benda will soon have three V4 cruisers in its line-up. The Dark Flag 600 sits between the small Dark Flag 500 Commander and the big Dark Flag 950, which is due to reach the first European dealers as early as the end of November 2026. The model is not entirely new. In China it has been on sale since summer 2026 under the name Black Flag 600, in two versions. For Europe, Benda is only bringing the better-equipped Ultra EC for now. The abbreviation stands for Electronic Clutch. The bike is part of the new motorcycles for the 2027 season that Benda presented in Milan alongside other new models.

What sets the Dark Flag 600 apart from the Dark Flag 500 Commander?

The Dark Flag 600 has a larger, completely redesigned V4, a new frame, more sophisticated air suspension and an electronic clutch. Despite the bigger engine, it weighs 254 kg (560 lbs) ready to ride, six kilos less than the 500 Commander at 260 kg (573 lbs).

The gap is clearest in the engine. The 500 Commander makes 47.6 hp (35 kW) and 42 Nm from 496.4 cc. The 600 produces 70.7 hp (52 kW) and 55 Nm. Displacement grows by about a fifth, but output by almost half. Benda did not simply bore out the old engine. The crankcase, cylinders and cylinder heads are new.

The bore-to-stroke ratio has also been reversed. The 500 engine is slightly undersquare at 53.5 by 55.2 mm, meaning the piston travels a little further than the cylinder is wide. The new V4 measures 63 by 48 mm and is clearly oversquare. Engines like this usually rev more freely, which fits the performance figures.

At 680 to 730 mm, the seat height of the 600 is slightly higher than that of the 500 Commander at 670 to 700 mm. The 16-litre tank and the belt final drive remain unchanged.

How much horsepower does the Benda Dark Flag 600 have?

The Benda Dark Flag 600 produces 70.7 hp (52 kW) at 10,500 rpm. It reaches its maximum torque of 55 Nm (40.6 lb-ft) at 8,000 rpm.

The liquid-cooled V4 has 16 valves and a compression ratio of 12.2:1. The throttle is electronic, so there is no cable to the throttle body. A six-speed gearbox handles the shifting. For China, Benda quotes a top speed of 180 km/h.

For a cruiser, this layout is unusual. Most bikes in the class use twins that deliver plenty of pull at low revs. The V4 of the Dark Flag 600, by contrast, only reaches its peak figures high up in the rev range. How much pulling power is available lower down cannot be said without a torque curve, and Benda has not published one so far.

How does the e-clutch of the Dark Flag 600 Ultra EC work?

The electronic clutch takes care of the clutch work when pulling away, shifting and stopping, so the rider no longer has to pull the clutch lever. Gear changes, however, are still made by the rider with the left foot.

Benda calls the system BEC Mk III; it is already the third generation of the in-house technology. The principle is similar to Honda’s E-Clutch: an electromechanical actuator operates an otherwise conventional clutch. The lever on the handlebar remains. Anyone who prefers to use the clutch themselves can do so at any time.

The technology is already known from the twin-cylinder Rock 707. The Dark Flag 600 is the first Benda V4 to get it. It is meant to relieve the left hand above all in city traffic and when manoeuvring at low speed. For longer trips there is cruise control, which can be activated at the push of a button. Traction control, ABS and a side-stand cut-off switch are also standard.

Frame, air suspension and chassis of the Dark Flag 600

Under the bodywork sits a completely new twin-spar frame, in which two strong beams connect the steering head to the swingarm. According to Benda, this frame weighs 3.5 kg less than that of the 500 Commander and is 40 percent stiffer in torsion.

The new design makes room for a large, centrally positioned intake tract. On the 500, the airbox was still at the side. This is said to make the intake 30 percent more efficient. At the same time, Benda promises more legroom. The footpegs sit 11 mm further back, and the bike is said to have become more than 40 mm narrower. However, the technical data list an overall width of 907 mm, while the 500 Commander is quoted at 890 mm. Benda does not explain where the 40 mm were measured.

At the rear, a second-generation air suspension with two air chambers does the work. It automatically raises the bike to ride height when started and lowers it again when parked. This means the rider sits lower when getting on and off, which explains the seat height range of 680 to 730 mm. The 500 Commander still uses a simpler system with only one air chamber per shock.

At the front there is a telescopic fork, and the swingarm is made of steel. Braking is handled by discs with ABS front and rear. For China, Benda specifies two front discs with radially mounted four-piston calipers; no details are available yet for Europe. Both wheels are 16 inches, with a 130/90-16 tyre at the front and a 180/65-16 at the rear. The wheelbase is 1,588 mm, and the bike is 2,320 mm long and 1,108 mm tall.

What equipment and design does the Dark Flag 600 have?

The Dark Flag 600 has two displays: a round TFT display on the handlebar and a second, smaller screen in the tank, which shows the coolant temperature and the fuel level.

At the front sits an LED projector headlight framed by four fang-shaped daytime running light elements. USB-A and USB-C ports are available for charging a phone or sat nav. In the details, Benda relies on a seat called Orion with striking decorative stitching, a thick acrylic emblem and handlebar switches with chrome accents reminiscent of a game controller. The exhaust tips sit symmetrically on both sides.

Is the Benda Dark Flag 600 also available for the A2 licence?

Yes, alongside the full-power version with 52 kW, Benda offers a variant restricted to 35 kW for the A2 licence. It then produces 47.6 hp, on the same level as the 500 Commander.

A2 licence holders therefore get no more power with the 600 than with its smaller sibling. They do, however, get the new engine, the new frame, the dual-chamber air suspension and the electronic clutch. After moving up to the A licence, the restriction can usually be removed. How Benda will handle this on the Dark Flag 600 is not yet known.

Where does the Dark Flag 600 fit in Benda’s V4 cruiser range?

The Dark Flag 600 is the middle one of three V4 models. In terms of power, it sits clearly between the 500 Commander with 47.6 hp and the Dark Flag 950 with 108.8 hp (80 kW).

When it comes to weight, however, the picture does not quite fit. At 254 kg, the 600 is heavier than the big 950, which Benda quotes at 242 kg (533.5 lbs) ready to ride. One reason is likely the more elaborate technology: the 950 has neither air suspension nor an electronic clutch.

With a V4 as its powerplant, Benda remains an exception in the cruiser segment. V-four engines have appeared there before, for example in the Yamaha VMAX or currently in the Ducati Diavel V4. Across the broad mass of cruisers, however, the twin still dominates.

How much does the Benda Dark Flag 600 cost?

Benda has not yet announced a price for Europe, nor for individual countries. In China, the Ultra EC costs 36,800 yuan (approx. 4,951 euros / 5,531 US dollars).

There is also the Pro for 32,800 yuan (approx. 4,413 euros / 4,930 US dollars). It has the same engine but a conventional clutch, regular shocks and a fixed seat height of 700 mm. Whether the Pro will also come to Europe is open. So far, Benda has only announced the Ultra EC for Europe.

The prices of its siblings help put it into context. The Dark Flag 500 launched in Germany in 2025 at 8,990 euros (approx. 10,044 US dollars). The Rock 707 with a twin, air suspension and e-clutch costs 9,999 euros (approx. 11,171 US dollars) in Germany. There are no prices yet for the Netherlands and Belgium either.

When is the Benda Dark Flag 600 coming to Europe?

Benda plans to launch the Dark Flag 600 Ultra EC in Europe in 2027. The manufacturer has not yet given a more precise date.

Three colours are expected: Cast Green, Mecha Black and Stella Grey. In France and the Benelux countries, the bike will initially launch only in Mecha Black, with the other colours to follow later. Benda intends to announce the exact European specifications and availability in individual markets shortly before the market launch.
