As summer draws to a close, BMW Motorrad traditionally switches over to the next model year. For model year 2027, most of the changes once again fall into the running-changes category: new paint finishes, reshuffled option packages, and individual equipment details. Hidden among these points, however, is one technical intervention that goes beyond mere cosmetics: a revised frame for the M 1000 RR. At the same time, the lineup is generating discussion because, of all things, the most important adventure-touring models are missing. This puts the program in line with the ongoing 2027 model-year rollout that the industry is currently unveiling piece by piece.

What is the most important update for the BMW 2027 model year?
The most important update is the new frame for the M 1000 RR. In a model year otherwise defined by colors and packages, it remains the only genuine technical change. BMW equips the supersport bike as standard with a third-generation M Motorsport frame that affects handling and weight.
How does the new frame change the BMW M 1000 RR?
The new frame makes the M 1000 RR lighter and changes its flex behavior. According to BMW, it is a third-generation M Motorsport frame with significantly improved flex characteristics. It weighs around 1.3 kg (about 2.9 lbs) less than before and comes with wall thicknesses reduced by roughly 30 percent. BMW describes it as precisely tuned stiffness and flexibility for optimal chassis performance and maximum grip.
According to media reports, the frame follows the same philosophy as its counterpart on the M 1000 RR from the Superbike World Championship. A lighter frame with altered flex behavior is said to directly affect how the motorcycle turns into corners and puts power down on the asphalt. The rest of the standard equipment fits this picture: going forward, the M 1000 RR rolls off the production line on M forged wheels as standard, with the previous M Carbon wheels becoming an alternative package content. For track accessories, BMW replaces the previous M Competition Package with two new options. The M Track Package includes an M Endurance chain, Carbon Package, M milled parts package, and M Carbon wheels, while the M Track Package II comes without the carbon wheels.

What changes for the BMW S 1000 RR?
For the S 1000 RR, the running changes are more visible than for most other models. The Edition M Sport trim appears in the new Blackstorm Metallic / M Motorsport color scheme, joined by a tinted windshield and M forged wheels. Visually, this brings the S 1000 RR closer to the M 1000 RR. The previous Sport / Bluestone metallic combination is discontinued. A USB charging port is now part of the Dynamic Package and the Edition M Sport. The M Package likewise gains the M forged wheels, with the M Carbon wheels becoming an alternative package content here as well.
What new packages do the M 1000 XR and M 1000 R get?
Both models adopt the new package logic of the M lineup. Both the M 1000 XR and the M 1000 R receive the M Track Package and the M Track Package II. Both packages are based on M lap trigger, Carbon Package, and M milled parts package, with the more extensive variant additionally including M Carbon wheels. The previous M Competition Package is discontinued for both.

New editions and colors for the BMW K 1600
The big tourers of the K 1600 range get fresh colors and their own edition. The Edition II trim arrives in Imperial Blue metallic and carries the “K 1600 Edition” badge. For the K 1600 GT, a black/yellow seat and yellow rim tape are included, which can also be selected specifically via the wheel design option; the Option 719 Blue Ridge Mountain metallic color is discontinued. The K 1600 GTL combines the new color with a new seat in Option 719 black and Option 719 forged wheels, while the Blue Ridge Mountain metallic and Exclusive Gravity Blue metallic colors are discontinued. For the K 1600 B Bagger and Grand America, the Edition II likewise adopts Imperial Blue metallic, with the Option 719 Ionic Silver metallic color discontinued here.
What changes for the R 1300 R, R 1300 RS, and the F 900 models?
For these models, it’s mostly about added practicality. The R 1300 R can now be ordered from the factory with pannier mounts on both sides. There’s also a new touring package that bundles these pannier mounts with a central locking system and a center stand, positioning the R 1300 R more toward touring use. For the R 1300 RS, the pannier mounts on both sides likewise move into the factory options, here for the Performance trim. The F 900 XR and the F 900 R each receive a comfort package with new content that now includes an M Endurance chain, intended to allow longer maintenance intervals. In addition, the USB charging port moves into the comfort package for the S 1000 R.

Why is the BMW R 1300 GS missing from model year 2027?
The R 1300 GS is missing from the official list, which is being read as a sign of an upcoming overhaul. Neither the R 1300 GS nor the R 1300 GS Adventure appear in the model year 2027 lineup, nor do the recently introduced F 450 GS and F 900 GS. From the GS family, only the retro model R 12 G/S is represented, which gets the new Frozen Brooklyn Grey metallic color for the Option 719 and Option 719 II variants; the previous Option 719 Sandrover matte color is discontinued. According to media reports, the absence of the key adventure-touring models is seen as a sign that BMW may still have something in store for the GS. Speculation ranges from a facelift of the R 1300 GS to a possible R 1350 GS with a more powerful boxer engine. None of this is confirmed, and the actual news is expected to follow toward autumn.
When can the 2027 BMW models be ordered?
The updated configurations can be ordered from all BMW Motorrad partners starting in August 2026. BMW published the list on July 2, 2026. No information on possible price adjustments is available yet, so the financial impact of the new packages and editions cannot be quantified at this stage.
