CFMoto develops camera-based, active suspension

CFMoto, the well-known motorcycle manufacturer from China, is working on an innovative development in the field of motorcycle suspension.  The focus is on a new system of predictive electronic suspension that could potentially improve the response of motorcycles to different road conditions.

Camera-monitored suspension: a step into the future

In contrast to conventional suspension systems, which only react to changes in the road surface after the motorcycle has already passed them, the new system from CFMoto uses a predictive method.  A camera installed at the front scans the road in front of the motorcycle and detects unevenness at an early stage.  The system then adjusts the suspension in advance, before the motorcycle reaches the bump.  This technology, which was previously primarily found in the automotive sector, represents a new approach in the motorcycle sector.

CFMoto 1250 TR-G: An example of technological innovation

The CFMoto 1250 TR-G, one of the manufacturer’s top models, serves as an example of the application of this suspension technology.  The motorcycle, mainly used in the Chinese market and by police authorities, has a 1,279cc V-twin engine.  It already offers various advanced features, and the integration of the camera-monitored suspension could be an additional step towards technological innovation.

The patented system in detail

CFMoto’s patented system includes a shock absorber control system with an integrated camera.  This camera collects information about the road surface, which is then used to adjust the damping of the front and rear suspension.  While this technology is already familiar in the automotive sector, it is an innovation in the motorcycle sector.

Potential and outlook

Although the system was developed specifically for the 1250 TR-G, it is possible that this technology will also be integrated into other CFMoto models in the future.  The use of this suspension technology could set a new standard in the motorcycle industry, especially in markets where motorcycles are widely used.

Summary

The development of predictive electronic suspension by CFMoto shows an interesting technological advance in the motorcycle industry.  It remains to be seen how this technology will establish itself on the market and what impact it could have on the safety and comfort of motorcycling.
