Ducati Diavel V4 2027: The S Returns With Semi-Active Öhlins Suspension

Ducati updates the Diavel V4 for 2027 and, for the first time since the switch to the V4 engine, adds an S version alongside it. Both get the look of the V4 RS, navigation and the new quickshifter, while the S also gets electronically controlled Öhlins suspension.
  • Diavel V4 from 28,390 euros, Diavel V4 S from 31,390 euros in Germany
  • V4 Granturismo with 168 hp and 126 Nm, retuned engine management
  • V4 S with Öhlins Smart EC 3.0, lithium battery and heated grips

Until now, the gap between the Diavel V4 and the considerably more expensive V4 RS was large. With the new S version, Ducati is closing this gap at least partially. The base model, on the other hand, mainly gets a design update and more equipment for 2027. That Ducati was working on a revised Diavel had already become apparent over the course of the year through design registrations in the EU and homologation documents in the USA. Both models have now been unveiled at EICMA 2026, making them part of the new motorcycles for 2027.

What is new on the Ducati Diavel V4 2027?

The Diavel V4 2027 features new air intakes, a revised tail section and new wheels inspired by the Diavel V4 RS. On the technical side, there is retuned engine management, the Quickshifter 2.0 and a 6.9-inch display with standard navigation.

The tail cover is now designed for solo riding. A passenger seat is nevertheless included, and the folding passenger footpegs and grab handles remain. The familiar face also stays: Ducati carries over the double-C daytime running light and the LED matrix tail light from the predecessor, as well as the wide front and slim tail.

The cockpit features a 6.9-inch TFT colour display in 8:3 format, as also used on the new Panigale V4. Turn-by-turn navigation is standard on both versions. Also new is a real-time graphic display showing when traction and wheelie control intervene. After every launch control start, the display shows the 0 to 100 and 0 to 200 km/h times and stores the best values. When the tank goes into reserve, the fuel gauge remains visible as a bar next to the remaining range. A 20-watt USB-C socket charges the smartphone. For tyres, Ducati now relies on the Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV, which was first available in 240/45 size on the Diavel V4 RS.

What is the difference between the Diavel V4 S and the Diavel V4?

The most important difference is the suspension. The Diavel V4 S uses the semi-active Öhlins Smart EC 3.0 system, the base model a conventional, fully adjustable setup.

On the Diavel V4, a 50 mm upside-down fork works at the front and a shock at the rear, both of which can be adjusted manually. The S gets a 48 mm Öhlins NIX30 fork at the front and an Öhlins shock at the rear as well. Both elements are electronically controlled and adjust damping in fractions of a second.

How does the Öhlins Smart EC 3.0 work?

The system evaluates data from an inertial platform that measures acceleration and lean angles. From this, it continuously calculates the appropriate damping. Three modes are available: Dynamic, Comfort and Low Grip for slippery surfaces. In the sportier modes, the system increases fork rebound damping after the brake is released. This keeps the front calmer, and the Diavel V4 S should turn in faster and hold its line better in corners. If the Diavel V4 S rides steadily in a straight line for a longer period, for example on the motorway, the system recognises the situation and softens the damping.

What additional equipment does the V4 S have?

In addition to the suspension, the S comes with a lithium-ion battery, while the base model has a lead battery. Heated grips are standard on the S and available at extra cost on the Diavel V4. The cast wheels of the S also have machined spokes. Thanks to the lighter battery and the other parts, the V4 S weighs 222 kg (489 lbs) without fuel, the base model 225 kg (496 lbs).

How much horsepower does the Ducati Diavel V4 2027 have?

The Ducati Diavel V4 2027 produces 168 hp (123.5 kW) at 10,750 rpm. Peak torque of 126 Nm (93 lb-ft) is delivered at 7,500 rpm; both figures are unchanged from the predecessor.

The engine is the 1,158 cc V4 Granturismo, which complies with the Euro 5+ standard. It features cylinder deactivation: when stationary, for example at traffic lights, and at low revs, the electronics shut down the rear cylinder bank under certain conditions. This is intended to reduce fuel consumption and heat for rider and passenger. When more power is called for, the rear cylinders are reactivated. The engine management tuning is new. It is meant to make throttle response smoother in the low and mid-rev range. This helps especially in town and when riding slowly.

The Quickshifter 2.0 allows clutchless up- and downshifts and replaces the previous system. Instead of a gear lever with a microswitch, there is now a direct mechanical linkage, with a sensor detecting the selected gear and the position of the shift drum. The lever also runs in bearings instead of bushings. This is meant to bring shorter shift travel and less play.

Also new is software that predictively compensates for play in the driveline. It is intended to reduce the snatch on light throttle openings that was still noticeable on the predecessor. Four riding modes are available: Sport, Touring, Urban and Wet. There are also three power levels, the weakest limiting the engine to 115 hp (85 kW). Cornering ABS, traction control, wheelie control, launch control, cruise control and keyless start are standard on both versions.

The V4 remains undemanding when it comes to maintenance. An oil change is due every 15,000 km or every two years, while valve clearance only needs checking after 60,000 km.

Chassis, brakes and dimensions of the Diavel V4 2027

The basic structure remains the same. An aluminium monocoque frame uses the engine as a stressed member, and at the rear an aluminium single-sided swingarm guides the rear wheel.

Suspension travel is 120 mm at the front and 145 mm at the rear. The 17-inch wheels are fitted with 120/70 tyres at the front and 240/45 at the rear. At the front, two 330 mm discs with Brembo Stylema monobloc calipers do the braking, at the rear a 265 mm disc. Seat height is 790 mm and the tank holds 20 litres.

What equipment can be chosen ex works for the Diavel V4?

From the 2027 model year, the Diavel family is part of the Ducati Factory Made programme. This means buyers configure their motorcycle when ordering, and the selected parts are fitted directly at the factory.

For the Diavel V4, the Icon, Style and Sophistication design lines are available. The range is larger for the V4 S. Here there are also liveries in the style of Ducati Corse and a Performance variant, as well as colours from Lamborghini’s Ad Personam personalisation programme. Further options include special wheels, brake calipers and seats, semi-rigid side cases with backrest, equipment packs and a dry clutch.

How much does the Ducati Diavel V4 2027 cost and when will it arrive?

In Germany, the Diavel V4 starts at 28,390 euros (around 32,000 US dollars), while the Diavel V4 S costs from 31,390 euros (around 35,400 US dollars). Dealers are due to receive the new models from January 2027, first in Italy and then in the other countries.

The premium for the S is therefore 3,000 euros. In the USA, Ducati charges 28,995 US dollars (around 25,700 euros) for the Diavel V4 and 31,995 US dollars (around 28,400 euros) for the V4 S. Above them, the 182 hp Diavel V4 RS remains the flagship of the range, costing from 38,990 euros (around 43,900 US dollars) in Germany.
