Guruma 1000 RR: China’s New Superbike Bets on AI and Radar

At the AWE 2026 electronics fair in Shanghai, the new brand Guruma unveiled a superbike with a 1,051 cc inline four-cylinder, radar assistance, and AI-powered road surface analysis. Whether these ambitious promises can be delivered remains to be seen.
  • Sub-brand of the Chinese conglomerate Fengxun
  • 1,051 cc inline four-cylinder with 150 hp (110 kW) and 105 Nm
  • Six-axis IMU, millimeter-wave radar, and front and rear cameras

There are motorcycle premieres that take place at major two-wheel shows like EICMA or the Motor Bike Expo. And then there are those unveiled at an electronics fair. The Guruma 1000 RR belongs to the latter category. At AWE (Appliance & Electronics World Expo) in March 2026 in Shanghai, the previously completely unknown brand Guruma made its public debut — not with an entry-level model, but immediately with a fully faired liter-class superbike.

Guruma as a New Mobility Brand by Fengxun

Behind the name Guruma reportedly stands the Chinese technology and industrial conglomerate Fengxun. Guruma apparently positions itself as a mobility sub-brand and also showcased a so-called smart aircraft at AWE. This is clearly not a traditional motorcycle manufacturer with decades of heritage. Rather, the company positions itself at the intersection of electronics and mobility, which also explains the choice of venue.

Engine and Technology with Familiar Roots

The powertrain of the Guruma 1000 RR is a liquid-cooled inline four-cylinder with 1,051 cc displacement, claimed to produce 150 hp (110 kW) and a maximum torque of 105 Nm (77.4 lb-ft). The manufacturer states a top speed of 260 km/h (162 mph).

Anyone following current developments in the Chinese motorcycle market will quickly notice parallels. The engine, frame, and single-sided swingarm bear strong similarities to the QJMotor SRK 1051 RR, which in turn draws on MV Agusta technology. QJMotor was a well-known partner of the Italian manufacturer and adopted the inline four-cylinder engine as part of their collaboration. The engine was originally developed as a 921 cc unit with double overhead camshafts and 16 valves. For the 1051 variant, the bore was increased from 73 to 78 mm while the stroke remained at 55 mm. The Guruma likely uses this technology in a similar or identical form, although it claims 150 hp — slightly more than the QJMotor SRK 1051 RR’s 144 hp at 10,600 rpm.

Visual similarities also exist: the four exhaust pipes swept up toward the tail, the aggressive full fairing, and the single-sided swingarm are reminiscent of familiar designs. The front end with LED lighting, however, appears to be a Guruma original development. Other notable equipment features include a fully adjustable upside-down fork, a Marzocchi steering damper, and a large display.

Rider Assistance at Automotive Level as the Core Theme

What is supposed to set the Guruma 1000 RR apart from the mass of Chinese superbikes is not the engine, but the electronics. According to the manufacturer, the motorcycle features a six-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), millimeter-wave radar, and cameras at both front and rear. Together, these sensors are said to enable 360-degree environmental detection, extending into the blind spot.

Based on this data, the system is supposed to detect obstacles, analyze road conditions, and warn the rider in real time — for instance, when approaching an obstacle too quickly or encountering slippery surfaces. Guruma goes even further with its promises: the AI is allegedly capable of proactively calculating curve radii and changes in asphalt grip. Such features are so far known, if at all, only from the automotive sector, and even there many of these technologies are still under development.

A particularly powerful onboard computer is said to process all data and continuously improve via OTA (Over-the-Air) updates. While this sounds ambitious, it has yet to prove itself in practice. To what extent the systems actually intervene in ride dynamics or merely serve a warning function is not clear from the information available so far.

Press Images Raise Questions

One detail stands out when examining the published image material: the quality of the press photos is noticeably low, and several images appear to be computer-generated renders or heavily AI-processed concept images. Proportions, lighting, and surface finish do not suggest photographs of an actual production vehicle. While a physical model was on display at the trade show, it remains unclear whether it was a rideable prototype or purely a show bike.

A Retro Variant Also in the Pipeline

Alongside the fully faired superbike version, Guruma apparently also showed a retro variant with rounded bodywork at AWE, bearing similarities to the MV Agusta Superveloce. Here too, the assumption is that the platform originates from QJMotor, which offers similar derivatives within its SRK range.

Availability and Price: Nothing Concrete Yet

Guruma has not yet announced either a market launch date or a price. As things stand, the motorcycle is intended exclusively for the Chinese market. Whether and when homologation for Europe or other markets will be pursued is unknown. Given that neither a timeline nor a pricing structure has been presented and the production readiness of the vehicle appears questionable, the Guruma 1000 RR currently amounts to more of a statement of intent than a market-ready product.

Assessment: Big Promises, Little Substance

The Guruma 1000 RR is an interesting signal of the direction parts of the Chinese motorcycle industry want to take. Instead of relying solely on low prices and established technology, Guruma is attempting to carve its own path with advanced sensor technology and AI-assisted rider assistance. Whether the technology delivers on the manufacturer’s promises, whether the motorcycle will actually enter production, and whether riders even want such a heavily electronically assisted riding experience — these are questions that can only be answered in the future.
