The BMW M 1300 GS is the expected flagship of the boxer GS range, photographed as a near-production prototype near BMW's Munich development centre in late July 2026. Unlike the earlier HP version of the R 1250 GS it is not merely a trim package: a 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoked wheel, longer suspension travel, a reinforced shaft-drive swingarm mount, M brakes and titanium lightweight parts make it the most off-road focused GS. The 1,300cc boxer with 145 hp and 149 Nm is expected to carry over largely unchanged, with the gains coming from reduced weight. The model has not been officially confirmed.

Strengths & Weaknesses

Strengths

  • Far more capable off-road chassis with 21-inch front wheel, longer suspension travel, reinforced shaft-drive mount, M brakes, titanium lightweight construction, proven 145 hp boxer

Weaknesses

  • Not officially confirmed, no price or weight figures, likely considerably more expensive than the R 1300 GS, the 21-inch front wheel costs agility on tarmac, radar assistance may be dropped
